I think either the Pioneer A03 or A04 should do.

    Default A04

I am also thinking of getting the Pioneer A04 for Xbox, but I was wondering can it copy DVD movies ? If so does this involve imaging them to HD and creating my own menus or can you do a straight DVD to DVDR copy ? Any gudes etc would be most useful.

    cheers

I'm also planning to buy a DVD writer, so I'm also looking for the best one around.

I'm thinking about the Pioneer A04 Driver or either the HP200i.

Pioneer seems to be able to only write DVD-R media, and HP can only write DVD+R.

Which one would be best choice ? And what is the actual difference between a DVD-R and a DVD+R ???

Thx for any advice on this ...

DVD-R and DVD+R are different formats for single layer 4.7GB DVD discs. Your right there are no drives that currently do both. DVD-R is a little more common as the disc are cheaper, Both formats seem to work for most things e.g PS2, Xbox, Movies, Databackup etc. I went for DVD-R as I knew a few people with the Pioneer 104 and they had all recommend it.

DVD+R has some slight advantages - it can do seemless linking when burning which is cool. So its probally the better technology of the 2 systems but as with the VHS vs Betamax war on video recorders, its not about whos better, just who's more popular.

I recommend the DVD-R, but it depends on what you want to do with it and how much you can get the disc's for.

Check out some prices for the media first.

    hope this helps

    Cheers

Thx for the explanation Ironman !

Seems like DVD-R(W) discs are cheaper then the + ones.

I think I'll go for the pioneer A04 Driver. Seems to be like a good choice :-)

afak at the Moment there is no way to directly copy DVD movies because of the copy protection.
You have to rip them to HDD and then burn it.

    Try
    hit me

    Helpful tools: cladDVD and IfoEdit

Pay attention: there are sinle Layer and dual layer movies...
If they are dual layer you will have to rip the extras off to get it on one DVD-r

Arse, looks like that sites closed down now. Have you got any other general sites to do with DVDr burning and ripping?

While we're on the subject I also found this site which seemed to be quite cheap for Pioneers:

    http://www.digitalpromo.co.uk/erol.html

I've never heard of them though. Has anyone else used them?
