    totaly mad ...

Why a just and **** up your DVD in the xbox when all you do is add a better dvd. Like pioneer or even tosiba (even LG's work).

Yep you cannot play orginals atm but i have 20 + games now on cdr of all types and dvdr of all types all playing all working .

Ajust the pot and screw up you orgnal dvd player even more ! not a good idear. Im sitting here wondering just how many ppl now have screwed xbox dvds due this this lovely post.

cos some ppl like to play originals... sheesh.. this aint a warez board you know...

i've had nothing but positive feedback so far (and some constructive criticism) but NO ONE has mentioned that their dvd-rom has been made worse by this process...

It's an info post anyway... no one HAS to do it.

    Default Tweaking

I have had no luck tweaking my dvd/rom probally because i am unsure of what to do or should i say where to get the measurements from / Not all of us are that way minded, i have fitted a L/G Rom but that is giving the error messages now. Is any one going to tweak these pots at the Computer fairs who have the right equipment if so please let me know and i dare say there are others out there like my self. nice work guys anyway.

Well Iv found that Disk Planets DVDR's work fine on several boxes so far - no pot tweak here.

Rule of thumb - find good media and stick to it.

    - If all media fails then Get tweaking.

thankx for the tweak hint m8, but i would suggest to take a reading from the potts before you move them and write them down so you can always put them back to the original setting if you need to.

    A tutorial for swaping DVD-Rom Drive ?
    Okay.... But it's easy....
If you need a tutorial for that here it is :

Remove the IDE cable from the Xbox ROM, plug on your PC DVDROM into the Xbox IDE Cable (be sure the PC IDE ROM is in SLAVE MODE)

DO NOT REMOVE the little yellow cable attached to the Xbox drive, you still need it at this place otherwise the Xbox wont be happy !

Put an Y alimentation cable (You know, the power cord with the two black cables in the middle and the yellow and red cable usually used to power your drives or CDRom into the PC...) plug it into the Xbox IDE drive power cord and the replacement PC DVD drive you want to use.

    And voilà ! that's done !!

The big trouble, you now have an open Xbox with a PC DVD-Rom drive on it, and this drive won't be able to load any Xbox DVD.

The good part, now it can load CDR, DVDR, CDRW and DVDRW faster and with no problem !!

    enjoy.

I don't know, I don't even have an X-BOX (yet!) but I would think that the pot only has to connection points on it.. try them

put one probe on the screw itself and the other on the top point on the left (i think).. If you get a reading (approx 1500 ohms) you got the right point... didnt i explain all this at the start
