As an alternative you could try the driver & vehicle licensing site

    http://www.dvla-som.co.uk

They have a facility to leave a question if you can't find what you wnat and they do reply promptly which is how I found out the plate I want has never been issued.

Yeah, yours may just be a better bet seeing as after I made the post I checked my reg# and it says it was never issued. Still..........between the 2 I'm sure we'll find all we need.

I got offered one that suited me fine but the guy was asking way too much for it and it was a bit prattish in retrospect. It was B16 14N which, with the fixings in the right place looked like B1G 1AN.

The Ultimate plate for me would be either M0RPH but you cant use the number zero alone, so would have to be M8RPH (I currently have M18RPH) or I suppose J4SON would be cool (That went for £50,000+!!)

The plate "J450N A. K". is up for grabs soon starting at £450, which would be sweet as its my name and initials, but it will also prolly go for something stupid, paid £250 all in for my morph plate and I also have "O Friig" which was already on the car, but unless it was an investment I would never pay more than £1k for a number plate, just not worth it, plus.......

If you want a sweet looking plate, just get them made and stick them on, if you get pulled tell the copper that you were taking some photos of the car at a friends and forgot to take them off, they may confiscate the plates and fine you £30 but they will not be able to confiscate the actual plate (like if you had paid £3k for L4MBO or something) where as if you misrepresent a number they could, and theres nothing you could do about it, so play it safe, AND get whatever plate you want for £30 plus the cost of the plates, maybe someone should move this to Biggy7's Cheapskate corner as it must be the bargain of the week.....I think I will use the J.4SON. plate this week after all :-)

My current plate was never issued apparently.

My ideal one would be something like:

    205 MI16

    or similar

my plate was issued...how can i track it down?

people used to write to the dvla and say that, "a car with the reg: xxxxxxx has been parked outside my house and I would like it moved" or something similar.

    any other ways?

    some info on number plates

Many drivers alter the spacing and typefaces on number plates to spell names and messages. But some plates can make registration numbers unreadable by speed cameras.

Drivers who tamper with car number plates are likely to face prosecution in a new clampdown.

It is already an offence to make letters look like numbers and vice versa, but the Driver Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) in Swansea has said it intends to crack down.

Thousands of personalised registration numbers are allowed - the DVLA sells assignment rights to attractive numbers and many people are prepared to pay high sums for novelty numbers.

But the problem is when people change the letter spacing and make the plate hard to read. Cars with these plates fail MOT tests and there is a maximum £1,000 fine.

    Police concerns

A simple change in letter spacing can make 13 look like B or 8. The letter O can look like D, 12 can look like 15 and the letter S can get confused with the number 5.

Police are concerned that vehicles involved in hit and run accidents can be difficult to trace.

The DVLA plans to work with the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) to crackdown on drivers. From 1 March people without correctly displayed plates may have their registration marks withdrawn permanently without compensation.

next year all numberplate makers will have to register with DVLA & you have to show log book when making number plate

50K for J4SON? Jeez. But that said, I've actually seen the car that it belongs to. It's a bright yellow Ferrari, see it quite often around Wilmslow if you want to track it down!

    Default number plates

I make number plates and as from the 1st of jan 2003 i have to be reg with dvlc (£40). Everyone who wants a plate making must show me the vehicles documents, which i have to record. The perspex must have a bss number, the numbers & letters have to be the correct size & font.

The registration P155 OFF was not issued on the basis that it is considered offensive or undiplomatic by the British Government.

    Ahh well !
