    Default bloody virus??

guys i have a serious problem!

i started to get some fake security alerts onmy desktop, from antivirus 2010! now searching the internet it says how to get rid of it!! BUT i cant actually log intomy computer!!

the pc has two user accounts i can get in on one of them, the kids one, but not on the administrator one! ok not strictly true i can get in to desktop but i dont have any icons, the same happens with the other user account but i can open taskmanager and manually start explorer and it runs! in the admin one though when i try to run taskmanager it says its been locked by the administrator!!

before it got to this stage i used avg to scan and it came up wit a couple of trojans i heald them but it still did the whole fake virus thing and when i scanned again they were back! even tried useuing system restore but i haveno restore points!!!!

    what can i do!!!!???

Turn off system restore as well before you run the antimalware/ AV.

Can you boot up in safe mode?

Any chance of taking out the drive and sticking it inside a caddy, then use another pc to scan it for you. Just a thought

if you go to start then run then type msconfig and then use diagnostic startup that will start your computer with basic settings then download combofix and run that this should kill the bugger for you then restart the machine run malwarebytes also as nibb said turn off system restore before u do any of this and bobs your uncle.......

I think you'll find AVG and MBAM are for different things, Malwarebytes is not an anti-virus - it's anti malware similary AVG is not anti malware, it's anti-virus.

..anti-virus 2010 is not a virus, hence AVG isn't interested in it.

@ OP, I have come across this program many times, as Nib has suggested persevere with getting into safe mode (borrow a ps2 keyboard?) and just delete the folder from program files and restart as normal to do spyware/anti virus scans.

also, if you enable USB legacy support in your BIOS you will be able to use your USB keyboard before windows loads in the future.

this also has good reports should you wish to try it.. although when I've encountered peoples machines with this virus before malwarebytes has always done the trick..

i've worked on this virus loads of times and its pointless wasting the time its quicker backing up your data and reinstalling windows cause some of the above work enough but in the end system is very unstable / comes back.
