    Default Black Hawk Down

    [2001] Black Hawk Down

I'm not a huge fan of war films and wasn't particularly looking forward to this one, but it was a pleasant surprise in the end!

Not much of a script or particularly good acting but the directing and the action is extremely intense. Ridley Scott does a fantastic job of portraying the sheer horror of war in such a gritty and atmospheric way that you can't help but feel for the characters.

It even has moments of humour just to stop yourself from going out and topping yourself after.

An excellent film and well worth a watch, even for non 'army' fans I'm off to play soldiers in the backgarden hacka hacka hacka

Well thats the problem with this film, its suppose to be based on a true story, except they didnt include the fact that the soldiers were all racists that BUTCHERED 3000 innocent men, women and children!

I havnt seen this film nor would i even consider it, more fcukin american propaganda! >

Well it depends on whether your watching the film for a real life account of the actual facts. Or if your just watching it for enjoyment.

I doubt you will find many films that are an accurate portrayal of the event, unless your watching the history channel?

I don't disagree with you about the americans showing what they want to show etc and not giving the whole truth...but it didn't stop this being a good film IMO and I do not like war films one bit.

I don't think there is much variety in this film. It all seems just mindless shooting. However the fighting scenes have been done very well although some very unlikely to happen (ie one guy takes on about 50 men sitting down)

Also as you people said its just more american propaganda (even though its intention may not have been for this purpose).

A couple points on this film,

    1) Action - Great action like Zulu in a city.

    2) Realism - Bollocks, if that many people with all those AK's they would have taken home a 1000 yanks in body bags.

    3) Iraq - Americans are crap at war - and this is a prime example - if they try and take on old Sadders he is going to shag them up the arse. You cannae win a war with politics and technological superiority alone and that is the best part of this film.

Though if you wanna bomb unarmed civilians and your allies you know who to call

    6 1/2 out of 10 for a non-stop killing action though

no this had to be one of the most boring films ever made, there was no real plot development; it was just a couple of blokes trapped in a city just shootin at everyone

then to make it worse, at the end you realise how much crap of american propaganda is in the film. America saves the world, yeah rite!

if you want some quality gun films, go for the sphagetti westerns with clint eastwood :cheese:

Hmmm Interesting point about too much American Patriotism, Considering the director Ridley Scott is British! Americans really are patriotic and Gung Ho, It's just a fact.

They definately beefed up the number of somali's, but then it is a film, and people want to see action.

The real Black Hawk down event was a huge defeat for the US special forces but out of that defeat came some amazing self sacrifice, iginuity and bravery and out of that came some sort of victory. It's a bit like Dunkirk in WWII, backs to the sea and beaten but the actual evacuation was a triumph on it's own merrits.
