Yes, it needs to be formatted.

Read a couple posts above - it's spelled out as clear as day!

Yes m8 i read and done at no avail, But i,ve manged to edit the files on a bit of info sent me and managed to make a boot up disk which is brill put the new h/d in and boot up the disk and it does it all for ya . I now have a new h/d in and no messing about. You can install a new h/d and off ya go. The only thing is on this new Evo-x do you still use boxexplorer to install the games on the e: drive but when i do they don,t show up in the games menu. Any ideas

O.K guys i,m having probz getting the games on the menu , If there is any one out there that can have a look at this little util i,ve got that does the formating and puts all the files on the h/d cause there is only somthing small wrong , as i say it all works but just cant run the games from the menu ( I can run the games from the executable though) personally i think its looking at the d drive for the games I THINK. So if any one could look at it and maybe just put it right or me right i would appreciate it. Thanks

Is it bad if you send the raw command of "Formatpath Device\harddisk\partition1" instead of "Formatpath Device\harddisk0\partition1"?...B/c when i first put in the hd, i formatted it that way and when i copied the orig directories over it made it nested....but then i reformatted it with the right command, and it works great now.

The biggest Harddrive you can put in an Xbox is 120Gb wich is a limitation of ATA100 so by buying an ATA133 Hdd you wont gain anything, having said that most Maxtors are ATA133 anyway at no extra cost.

As far as upgrading the cable from a standard ATA33 to a 66/100/133 (they are all the same, 80 Core cable) there wont be any difference as ATA transfer speeds are reduced to the maximum speed of the slowest drive, in the case of the xbox its the DVD which is ATA33 (as are all optical IDE drives); so dont bother!!!

Thanks MR E Nigma for clearing it out for me...
I´m still confused how to switch HD. Is it OK to just turn of the xbox and switch the HD and then turn it back on booting from EVO X on CDRW? Or should I have the xbox running while I switch the HD? If so how?

    Default Enigma

    Hi all
from reading the above posts am I right in assuming that with Evox the HD can be replaced with enigma chip?
I thought this couldnt be done - Executer was required.
    Any advice appreciated

I swapped my HDD yesterday and did none of the zero formatting bit, just saved C: and E:, popped the new drive in, formatted using a modified evox startup disk, copied C; and E: back and Robert was your dad's brother......................its all working OK, should I expect problems 'cos I didnt do it your way?
