Default old Toshiba A-30 missing ACPI driver Win7 advice

    hi
I have an old A30 that I have just installed Win7 on. Everything is fine apart from a missing driver - Unknown device ACPI

In Device manager the Hardware ID is ACPI\CMP0101

now this laptop's fan comes on quite a lot and it does have a random problem of it shutting down for no reason. I have checked the fans and they are clear. I believe the shutdowns may be related to this missing driver as it may control the temp/fans which stop it overheating, then again I may be wrong..

I would be grateful of any help and advice as Toshiba support forums said go back to XP !!!

    many thanks in advance

Get the motherboard drivers from the Toshiba site, although if it's that old then Toshiba probably won't offer support for Win 7 anyway.

For what it's worth McD, I do have a copy of Win 7 Ultimate (32bit) that has numerous driverpacks included and installs fully activated.
Let me know if you want a copy and I'll make an ISO for you.

The A30 is a very old machine so expect very little if existent support for Windows7. I will have a look on the Toshiba technician sites for you and see if I can find anything.

If you want to PM me your full model number (A30-xxx PSLxxx-xxxxxx) and serial number I will see what I can do. You should find the vista drivers work or even the XP drivers, problem is locating the correct driver.

Sounds strange for a missing driver to cause the shutdowns though, as it is a very old machine it might just need some fresh thermal paste, when you open it to do this you can give it a thorough clean with an air duster too. Also check the fan is extracting a good amount of air

I should also be able to provide you with tests and diagnostic discs from Toshiba for your machine Not sure how helpful they will be as I use third party apps to diagnose machines.

    EDIT:
I have also got you a 207 page Toshiba Technician maintenance manual mate I haven't used these before as I worked on experience but it may be useful to you.

You can always disable APM from within Windows if you can't find the ACPI driver, or even disable ACPI within the BIOS itself.
