Default body fat (how's it worked out?)

how do people work out there percentage of body fat? do they make it up?

Ade Akinbiyi has 14% body fat, but other guys on health sites say with anything more than 8/9% you can't see a six pack etc - i think Ade's is pretty clear so how's it worked out?

I have a pair of these scales at home though, and they are not the most accurate way of testing, the most efficient way is with calipers, these measure the body fat rather than sending an electronic pulse through only your legs and calculating from the time the pulse takes to go through the percentage fat (electroninc pulses move slower through fat than muscle). If you buy some calipers and get the same person to measure you each time this is the best way. When I was a runner I was less than 7 %, now the scales tell me I am about 17-18%, a body builder ripped for a compo is prolly at about 4-6% depending on their phsyique, some people carry fat better than others, or in better places, hence the different look on two people with the same amount of body fat.

Bruce Lee was reputed to carry less than 3% body fat.

According to the conspiracy theory, that is why his body couldn't handle the aspirin he took which they say killed him.

I wouldn't recommend getting a body fat as low as Bruce Lee's. It didn't do him any good after all.

Be aware that a body fat in women of less than about 6% means she will stop having menstruation (her period).

As an ideal you need to be around 15-20%. Women about 20-25%.

If you have a visible overhanging belly you are overweight.

If your legs are thinner than your knees, you are underweight. (sorry - joke).

Losing weight is easy, keeping it off is the difficult bit. Think lifestyle change rather than losing weight.

Stay of the crisps and coke, kids.

My body fat it about 23% (at least it was about 3 months ago) i am 17 stone 5 pounds, my waist is 41 inches and my belly is 41.5 inches, (so not too much of an overhang!!) i do not look fat but it goes to show its how you carry the weight not how much you weight!!
