Default Visoly 512Mbit Cart & USB Linker...

Damn thing isn't very stable under USB - tried it on my main PC and my laptop - both hang after flashing several ROMS at once - seems more stable flashing 1 ROM at a time - maybe it's the ROM files need some sort of "fix" for the new carts - will keep you posted...

Tried the new USB Linker software & firmware released today (1.13beta) - slight improvement on Formatting, i.e. doesn't hang so often, but still problems flashing more than a few games at once, e-mailed Visoly, they say they will have the hanging bug fixed shortly (we'll see) and improved compatibilty on ROM management within the cartridge menu system. hmmmm....will update when I have more info.

If you are after buying one of these things, I'd hang on until the software has left beta stage and more positive posts concerning the 512 MBit USB Linker Set have been put up on boards like this....

*EDIT* Just for info, when the Linker is behaving itself, it takes about 40 seconds to flash a 32Mbit game.

Is this problem just with the 512 or the 64, 128 and 256 on a USB programmer?

Good question Ultra, don't know is the answer. Will try the parallel connection to see if this is any more stable - not my ideal situation for flashing as I really wanted the USB to work straight away..oh well...no-one said it would be easy - but it should be!!

OK, I installed the new 1.20beta software and now when I'm roughly halfway through formatting the card, you hear the 'new hardware' sound, then the format stops, then you hear the 'new hardware' noise again. Tried it on my laptop aswell, same thing, maybe it's an XP thing...if any others have tried the new software, please post here. Cheers.

*edit* Have not tried the parallel connection yet, maybe try later this week. Visoly have assured me this works 100% - uhuh....

    Default 512m Viseloy

I Have the 512m and USB link it now works perfect but you do need the 1.20 software. The early software didn't work. The auto save funtion and add/delete files all work and are a great improvement

    Cheers Gamefan1

Nice feedback, yes after using the software for a few days, I have found it to be a great improvement, although I tend not to format the card anymore, just add & remove the roms as needed. I'm certainly alot happier with the newer software!

so psxgalaxy should I blow the cash and get one of these babys?

I was stupid enought to buy the very first 64M huge cart that bloody crashes all the time etc doh! anyway suffice to say its been sitting gathering dust for a year. Do these new carts work with all games straight off or do you still have to piss around with patching for sram and crashes and all that malarkey?

    BD

My kit seems to have "settled down" now with the latest software and I have had no probs to speak of for the last 2 weeks - all roms have gone across fine, no patches needed, but you get a new menu system to use, so perhaps this helps with the way games fit together in RAM etc...so I would say in answer to your question, yes, go ahead and get one, the hardware itself is sound, its the bloody software that gave me grief!!

PS - Can't find a 'pinball of the dead' that works in these things, if anyone has one patched, please let me know). Cheers.

BD, haven't seen you on telly recently, hope you haven't had to resort (no pun intended) to doing your act down Blackpool??

if you havent ordered from lik-sang before do keep in mind you may have to fork out £40 or so when the package arives to actually get it. custom charges etc. why they dont mark them as gifts i dont know.

since visoly are down, does anyone have a copy of the latest flash xtreme software & drivers available anywhere? maybe the stuff is still up at visoly :-/ The homepage has been replaced, but it at least _some_ of the other pages are still up.

Excuse the noob question, but can any GBA flash cartidge be used with the Visoly USB flasher, or does it only support visoly ones?

I understand that the carts will be the same when reading, but is there a difference when writing?

What success have readers had with other manufacturers carts ?

Thank you for your helpful reply :rolls:

Yes I am the same person
No am not taking the pee.

The reason for the two logins is this:

    1. i register cheekygrin
    2. cheekygrin is auto logged in as part of the registration process
    3. post first message
    time passes...
    4. login times out
    5. go to reauthenticate
    6. password is rejected
    7. repeat steps 5&6 some number of times
    8. go to "reset my password" form
    9. get email with link to re-activate account page.
    10. visit reactivate page to read "this request was made over 24 hours ago" (was actually only about 30 seconds)
    11. think "oh bugger" and register new account.

i then had the same problems with the new account. again my password was not accepted for later login. (No i didn't forget the password both times. i was *very* careful)

i did the reset password thing again to realise that even though i got the "over 24 hours -- f**k you" message, that in fact was a bug, my request was accepted and the new password was in fact sent to me anyway. At a later login attempt the new password *was* accepted for login.

i am using ie 6.0.26 on xp

please feel free to delete the cheekygrin account.
