    Default My Afterburner Install *grin*

I've been toying with a Afterburner for afew weeks now and I finally took the dive last week. All arrived intact and very well packaged. The Manual is superb and there's not a step that's unclear.

The only stage I had problems with was installing the AR Film (Ant-Reflection)....this is a bitch to install, any fluff or bubbles and you've stuffed it, u only get one shot at this. I stuffed mine firstt ime round, so I ordered afew spares so I can get it perfect. Second time I had more luck and it's now as close to perfect as I think is humanly possible.

Overall I'm quite impressed withthe way it turned out. It's certainly worth the effort, but I would reccommend sending it to someone who know wtf their doing

    Heres some piccy goodness

    OMG!!! It's naked!!

Hmm...not bad soldering. Time for a Enigmah maybe

Without the anti reflective film...think I better install it.

My l33t dimmer pot installation. Damn sexy!

    With the AR Film installed

    Mmmmm....me happy.

took about 4 hours originally...theres alot of work needed to be done to the case first to make the Afterburner fit (Dremel comes in handy here)

It's not too difficult to do tho, it's just the AR Film that's the bitch 'cos u only get one shot at it.

Oh, and I'd reccomend a Air Duster (Air in a Can)...defo helps keep dust at bay.

If you're thinking of doing it you should definatley get a full can of compressed air from maplins, in my opinion this is 100% essential.

Also if you dont have Dremmel etc, heat your stanley/kitchen knife over your gas cooker (or use soldering iron) to make the blade very hot, as this makes cutting through the gba case like cutting through cheese.

Also use cellotape to removing the protective covering film from the AR film, just stick it to it and gently pull, saves you from having to try and get your fingernails in a corner and leaving fingerprints.

Just some tips I found useful theres loads more on the triton forms

impressive. How long do Duracell Ultra's last with lights on?

I usually get about 2 hours with flourescent lamp thingy and 256mbit cart. A bit sh1t really considering GBA's are meant to go for 16 hours

I'm using 1800mAh rechargable batteries which I bought from here.

These last for aggess and I get many happy hours before they need a recharge, very recommended.

i am using the same batteries for mine.

i originally bought them to improve the amount of pics i could get out of my digital camera (fuji 4300) with the supplied batteries or duracells i could get about 25 pics , with the ones shown above i can now get about 300 pics with the screen on and the flash going.

    these are definitely worth purchasing.

www.portablegamer.co.uk sell the AR Film seperatly for £1.99 a sheet.

They also sell replacement front screens (the bit with GBA on it in silver) and Air in a can.

cd world sell the AB kits a bit cheaper than portable gamer, but no triwing screwdriver (I know its not AR film but just for anyones who's interested).

Do you use the dimemr at all Spike? Is it useful? Just curious because I opted not to install mine.

I have 2 questions I would DESPERATELY ask someone to please answer:
1- did anybody try portablegamer.co.uk? as I am a big dummy in electronics I would never install my own AB.
2- they don't install the dimmer, is that ok? has anyone tried a GBA without a dimmer in regular day/room light?

    TIA

1- I bought my AB kit from PortableGamer, but didn't get them to install it, installed it myself. From what I've heard tho their installs are among the best.

2- Not using the dimmer will only affect battery life. It's nice being able to turn it off if it's not needed.

Got the afterburner today (24 hrs after ordering) and installing it was not that bad,, took abt 2 hours in all,, did not install the dimmer though as the wife only plays the thing through an adapter in the house,, so no need to save battery power,,, I must say it is very impressive and a big plus in having one in place,, the wife thinks it's the dogs gonads ( my luck might be in tonight ) the ar film was a bit finiky though but i remembered powercow's little tip with sellotape,, worked a treat .
