In the PM's you never said what OS you're running, what sound card, drivers etc..
You said you've checked synthesizer volume - you did double click the icon on the desktop right?
List everything that's in the Sounds and Audio devices box - if you could take a screenshot (alt + prtscn) that would be even better....
it's on board sound
It works with the BURP file from your downloads , but that was a AUDIO WAVE FILE
OK , WHERE DO I LOOK ?
I HOPE WE CAN SORT THIS OUT !!!!!!!
me too mate
erm, 98, let me think...
right click my computer and hit properties.
select device manager and then if you look down i think it's labelled Sound / Audio & Game Controllers or something like that
If you expand that it will list the driver..
RIGHT I HAVE :-
GAMEPORT JOTSTICK
SOUNDBLASTER PRO OR COMPATIBLE
VIA AC'97 AUIDO CONTROLLER(WDM)
WAVE DEVICE FOR VOICE MODEM
THATS IT...........
What was the file type of the file you downloaded :
.mid - midi
.wav - normal sound file for windows
.mp3 - mp3
(or some other format phone format that'll need a ringtone player)
If its .mid, you may find that you have midi muted - see if you have a speaker type icon in the right hand bottom of the screen in the system tray, if so double click on it, and find which one is midi, check the volume and check if its not already muted.

Windows 98 was configured for an external MIDI source so it was routing it out via the joystick port on the sound card, changed it to the MS Software Synth and it started playing the MIDI files fine mate...Originally posted by hxbro
