    blood sweat icprog & 12c509

    mi m8t`s

i need a icprog dude to clear a few things up for me. ( 12c509 )

i have created a superhex3 file from my serial number using the old F2 display trick. now assuming i created this correctly ( how can i tell? ) i have moved onto the next brick wall, ICPROG.
OK, so i have found that i can set the hardware settings for my "baby" programmer to "JDM", selecting the com port.... all well and good.

BUT> this is where the fun stops....
    1 i`ve read the chip,,
2 i`ve opened the HEX file
3 i`ve tried to note the numbers i need for the end.... not sure which numbers though... any idea?
4 i`ve checked wdt, selected intrc
5 tried adding what i believe to be the important number.. is that the ID value? i don`t know to be honest? really am guessing here
6 i`ve tried to program....... get a "no oscillator callibration, value not found, use value from file?"......said yes
7 waited one hour and when it varified,it failed at 0000h
8 tried again with verify during program(saves an hour) and fails 0000h
9 used "blank check" ,,,, says its blank
10 ahh,,, but are the chip pins in the correct way on the baby. I DONT KNOW>>>>>>>>>
    what else mught it be?

    please help?

Sounds like you really dont know what your doing.

At first find out the right way to put the chip in and then read the mannual for the pic programmer.

It should only take about 5 seconds to program the chip m8t.

    thanks for that.
it seems i don`t have a manual for the programmer, i does`nt come with one. also, i`ve read the help files for icprog from its website, and i believe i have the right settings now.
so, here i am, 3 chips down, all dislaying lovely big fat 0000`s when i read them. so i assume they`r duds.
however i do need help with the number i should be retaining, is it the ID checksum/ ID value? i don`t even know if i have missed anything out? i really don`t know why i am gettting the same old verify failed at address 0000h. ok so it does`nt get any further, but i dont know why.

Can you take a programmer of the picture and post it because without knowing what programmer u got thers no way of telling wot seetings u need etc.

If its taking an hour to program then there is something very very wrong.

its the baby basic programmer, and i must have had the hardware setup for icprog wrong, for it to run so slow. i`ve overcome that now running JDM, but guess what. i keep getting the address failure.

i have spent 2 whole days surfing this site and various other aussie forums but i don`t have an answer. I`ve got the W2K driver for icprog and i have even installed portuser.
i have followed in detail the tutorials, but there are always gaps that we obviously bridge. but i need new direction in making sure i have icprog configured properly . can you maybe ensure that i am configuring this correctly.....thanks.

    Default My settings

    Hi,

These are my settings. I have a similar programmer.

System: Win XP, 1.3 Meg Processor.

Ensure the XP patch is installed, if using NTFS file systems (I think you are).

    ICProg settings:

    Settings - Options - Misc

    Enable NT/2000/XP driver
    Enable Real time
Ensure you are on the correct comm port

    Settings - Hardware settings (F3)

    JDM Prog
    Comm 1 (or yours)
    I/O delay 10
    Enable Direct I/O

    How to prog

    1) Connect programmer to comm port cable (If you have a power LED this should be alight)
    2) Select the device type (Top right drop down)
    3) Insert device to write onto programmer (Pin 1 to the left using the top of the socket, with the comm cable to the right)
    4) Read the device the window should show all zeros. Schroll down to the bottom right and note the numbers/letters.
    5) Load the *.HEX or other.
    6) Schroll down to the same position in the *.HEX file. Highlight the digits, right click, "edit location". Put the the number/letters previously noted into the hexadecimal window. OK
    7) Load the fuse settings (no need for CP unless you want to lock the chip from others to read)
    8) Prog all (Chip with Lightening going into it).

You can set to varify auto are do it manually.

    Hope this helps

    Default One more thing

    Sorry I forgot to mention.

I try all my work using a 509JW. These do cost, but can be erased (UV), and used time and time again, save filling the bin with lots of black things.
