    OpenBox - Lik-Sang

Has anyone ordered the OpenBox from Lik-Sang? If so and you have installed via flat ribbon, could you please explain the process a little? Especially where they talk about the xbox mb pcb already having enough solder. Does that mean you just stick the corresponding wires into the holes? Thanks for the help

hi mate, I didnt actually install it myself but I watched the guy do it. It was installed wth the flat ribbon, which just made it easier, and when they say that you just stick the wires onto the existing board it means that the MB has enough solder already, you just have to melt it a little, and put the other wire on it ! Hey presto !

    this is horseshit advice

ALWAYS use fresh solder and flux - do it right or dont do it at all

Melt the solder on the mb? don't know if I like that idea, maybe I'll wait for x-ecuter 2 to show up.

EDIT: Does the flat ribbon cable attach right onto the chip? Or is more soldering involved?

Scarey eh ? Then again the professionals always make it look easy....

The flat ribbon cable plugs into the OpenXBox, and there are then several wires that need to be soldered directly onto the mb. (9 I think). You also have the choice of attaching another 2 wires to enable the 'disable OpenXBox' option... I went for that, and am currently trying to flash the BIOS....gulp....

The whole flashing bit isn't a real problem, and I would go for disable also, but I like x-ecuter's method of disable better, with a toggle switch. I'll wait a bit and see if x-ecuter 2 comes out, as I haven't heard any new developments recently.
