XBOX Original - boots to black screen after failed XBMC update

I was upgrading XBMC by FTP the other week and I stupidly forgot to include adding the newest default.xbe to my C: drive. My XBOX only runs XBMC which is why it's the default boot.

When I turn it on, I get the xbox logo (with my EvoX in the corner) and then it goes to black. I downloaded Slayers 2.7 autoinstaller from usenet (which I figured would be an ok source) but after burning it will only load the SlaYers 2.7 text below the xbox logo and not boot any further.

I thought it might be the DVD drive so I connected up a PC DVD-ROM drive with a Y power split. No better. So I put in a new hard drive, which I think is blank, no joy either. I've just for the hell of it tried two medias, two PC-DVD drives and the original xbox drive. All stuck at SlaYers 2.7 text below the Xbox logo.

Have I got bad burns?
Do I need better than my wireless controller to fix this?
Am I being stupid? I'm not pressing any buttons, just power up and waiting.

Considering it worked perfectly before I messed with it, I wish I had just left it alone, I miss my little media box

any help or advice on what to check would be much appreciated.

i would download it from a different source and re-burn on different media first mate, will answer alot of questions before you look any deeper than that, have a go and let us know

auto installer deluxe is a far better and more recent install disk than slayers...maybe try that instead...is the xbox hardware or soft modded?

I used to prefer AID. If your chipped, it should be a breeze..but if you are softmodded, it may not be that straightforward.

thanks for the reply. I do have a chip although it's a cheapmod and I forget what it is - but it works very well (despite my shoddy install).

I've got AID and it's on CD-R burnt slowly and I hope this weekend I'll get my xbox back again

a cd-r?...not all xbox drives will read cd-r....burn it to dvd-r..

I used AID and tried to do an update but fookt the xbox dash. either try a new install using the AID disk or try to ftp in the dash that could be missing or corrupted......... failing that try a XBOX hard disk rebuild (not easy)!
