Is it true u should only put a 5,400 rpm hhd in ur xbox, not a 7,200 cause the later overheats the xbox?

do you mean hdd,if so i have had no problems at all with my 7200 80gb hdd ,it has never over heated at all.
i have a ibm 120 gig 7200 in mine and there has been no problems at all. also the ibms are suppose to be bad about getting hot, but i havent had any problems
Same here, IBM 7200 rpm drive no probs whatsoever.
The XBOX was designed to use a 5400rpm drive. Therefore if you put a faster drive in there, you do run the risk of overheating if you play for long periods of time. I have only heard of one person having a problem that was down to the speed issue, and to be fair the 5.4k drives are cheaper and you are not going to notice any problems as the HD is a lot faster than a DVDR anyway.
I think there will be many people with 7.2k drives that will use their boxes until their demise without problems, but the 7.2k drives do run a little warmer than their 5.4k counterparts.

I've got a 7200 40gb Maxtor in mine, and it works perfectly...I've had afew games crash during play but that's not that unusual.
my 123 gig ibm 7200 works perfect aswell
I'm not saying they will not work, but prolonged gameplay MAY cause overheating...

I also have a 120GB (actually 123 unformatted) IBM 7200rpm drive and have had zero issues with it. It's a bit louder than the Seagates I use in my computers but it gets the job done.
rather you than me, i wouldnt trust my data on an ibm without cooling of some kind - heard too many horror stories. but thats just my opinion.
Whatever you heard, I have an IBM deskstar and I have played my Xbox for long periods without it getting noticably hotter than the hdd that was in there originally.
lol, I guess we'll begin to see modded xbox's with huge delta fans sitting on top of the hard disk.
I have my original Hdd in my Xbox Works fine no problems yet
