    Default Big box, little dish.

    n00b question alert.

Ive just got a sammy 9500 twin via...whatever, after much deliberation. I haven't plumped for a dish and motor yet.

Out of curiousity I've the box stuck it into the old s*y dish (never used it). I've tried autoscanning various birds, minus a card, just FTA. Nothing really seems to there? I was told I should be looking at Astra 19.2 and Hotbird might reveal something.

I know I should have a bigger dish, card etc. But I just would like to get lots of FTA european channels for a start. I've looked at Lyngsat for channels, bit clueless about manual searching.

old sky dish you say, how old ?

from the old anologue days ? If so itll need a a new lnb as it will not pick up the digi channels . If its a mini dish for sky digital then itll need turning from 28 degrees to 19 degrees before you pick up anything .

If it's a minidish then if it's kept at 28.2/28.5 east you should be able to pick up the fta channels from there no probs. There are dozens though most are shopping, travel and religion channels.

If it's the older dish supplied for analogue sky then it should be fine for astra, hotbird and several others like Atlantic Bird at 8 west although if it's not a universal lnb it will only pick up channels in the low band.

    Thanks guys,

I picked up about 220 channels on Astra only, most you know who. Are there any guides to what you can pick up from a certain dish size and your location?

    Yikes 'Footpaths',

Lost me there fella'. In the back of wotsat mag in the channel guide there is a diagram showing various birds east to west.
Just wondering what Im likely to see with a 0.9, 1.2 etc size dish.
