    Default Sony Vegas editting help

    Hi all,

dunno where I coudl put this so here is as good a place as any!

I'm trying to put together a dvd from home movie avi footage of my little niece. I've made a little one so far to try it out and it works perfectly, except there's no sound? Any ideas on what i've done wrong?

    Thanks in advance
    Russbeer

when you render using the default dvd architect profile, it omits the audio stream, you need to render the audio seperately as a ac3 file (i think).
Then when you go to burn it, it merges the video stream and audio together.

btw, have you checked the Audio tab in the custom profile window when you go to the render dialog?

which sound codecs are those? it plays perfectly well on vlc, media player and allsorts, except this Vegas thing!

Subby, I've looked in the Render bit of it and there is nowhere to check an audio stream, and I don't know how to render an ac3 one. Any clues?

What format are you trying to render to?
Check the audio tab when you go to render, follow the path.
File > Render As > (pick a format from the "Save as type" box Mainconcept MPEG-2 if burning to dvd ) > Template ( Pick "DVD Architect Pal Video Stream" ) > Save

That should give you the video stream ready to be burnt, now you need to get the audio stream. Exact same process, just pick Dolby Digital AC-3 as the type and stereo dvd as the template, use the same file name as the video stream

Crack open dvd architect, and setup a single file burn, pick your video stream and import
the software should also pull up the audio stream if you've used the same file name.

Edit: When you're in the render as dialog window, there should be a 'Custom' button next to the template drop down box, if you click on that you can customise the rendering profile, and it should give you the option to embed the audio stream in the video file.

As stated are you happy you've got the required codecs installed?

Which template you are using to render? Make sure the one you are using to render with has audio included.

i don't know. All i did was install Vegas as it was, no extra stuff at all. Even rendering the file as an mp3 just gives me a 10 minute silent track.

Are your speakers plugged in? volume turned up?

When you add your video clips to the timeline in Vegas does it generate two tracks, track 1 being the video and track 2 being audio. Also when you preview the video in vegas before you render it, do you get any audio output?

try running the rendered file on VLC or other half decent media player (Not Windows Media Player!!!)

yeah speakers are on and turned up! I get no sound on the preview in vegas, nor in vlc after rendering.

when i add the video it only shows in the video timeline, nowhere else?

simple mate, if vegas isn't generating the audio track in the timeline, it's probably a sign that the captured footage is missing the audio track or the capture software has omitted the audio track,
I'd check the capture settings and make sure that it's picking up the audio as well as the video.

Silly question this probably, but what is the capture software? I downloaded the videos straight off the cameras hard drive, and the individual files play perfectly, with sound, in VLC. It just loses the sound when previewed or rendered in Vegas.

I'll try installing power dvd too as suggested.
