Default Have I knackered My 8850??

    Hi Guys,

The screen on my 8850 went fooked like they all do so I took it apart and tightened the screws near the screen, put it back together and the screen worked fine again. Only thing is, it wont get a signal now at all. I have tried adjusting the aerial and taking it apart again but its still knackered.

I took it to a local mobile phone shop that does repairs but they said they replaced everything they could and couldn't sort it. They said it looks like a m/board fault and that I'd need a nokia engineer tolook at it.

Has anyone been able to fix a prob like this? If not whats the cheapest way for me to go about fixing it.... i obviously don't wanna be spending more to fix it than i can sell it for.

ps the phone is legit too!! but not insured.

    Thanks

    Joka

    Hi,

Firstly, check if it's under warranty, if it is, it's entitled to a free trip to Nokia. PM me with your IMEI number (*#06#) and I'll check to see if it's under warranty for you.

If it isn't under warranty, it's likely that it just needs a clean in a PCB cleaner, or a rework in a rework station... not the cheapest of jobs, but know a few people who can sort it for you for under £30.

    Regards

I just cannot believe my luck

My replacement phone has now gone tits up too!

I bought a 6510 off a mate, and had it since my 8850 broke.
The other day it switched itself off whilst I was making a call but making 2 little popping sounds from the speaker rather than the usual 'Beep Beep' indicating low battery. It wouldn't power back up until i disconnected the battery then put it back on again. I thought nothing of it but it happened again yesterday whilst I was dialing a number but this time it wont switch back on at all.

I've tried replacing the battery and tried turning it on whilst its connected to the mains but still nothing. It doesn't even start charging when i plug it in ie. no beep or battery meter.

    Help! Please.

    Hi,

If the 6510 is all legit (no stolen etc), then it'll be under warranty. Go get a free fix from Nokia in that case.
If not, it could be one of the early versions with bugs, and so a software upgrade might help, Complete GSM can help you there too.

Rude Yute....... I've just remembered, I had the 8850 replaced with a brand new one in April 2001 when my first one was stolen.

Will it still be under warranty?

    Hi,

PM me the IMEI number from under the battery and I'll check for you mate. Don't use the *#06# one though, incase it's been changed.

I have just dropped my 8850 at a CPW and I have mailed that 6510 to CompleteGSM and hopefully a software upgrade'll sort it.
