Woodgate (left) and Bowyer are now back in favour

England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has recalled Jonathan Woodgate and Lee Bowyer for Saturday's friendly against Portugal.

Personally I would play Murphy ahead of Joe Cole or Dyer, he is playing some great football, and this might be his best season yet.

Can't argue with 5 Leeds players in the squad, christ I'm not sure we've ever had 5 players in an England squad before, and we are the strongest represented side. At last, Sven sees sense.

@ Lee do u fancy Stevie the scouser, u have him twice in yr midfield

AS for you Murphy shagging scousers the reason I dont like Murphy is nothing to do with the goals he scored against manu its because he only tries for about 15 mins per half

I remember when he came on as a sub with 1/2 an hour to go (this is the best time to bring on fresh legs and the subs should run rings around the starters) he played well for the 1st 5-7 mins passed-moved-takled the lot. Then he disapeared for 20 mins and popped up in the last five mins and that was it.

Dyer or Cole would run their littles butts off for 90 mins

But 1 performance is not enough for me to pass total judgement so I hope he gets a game and we see what he can or cant do

Well what about you Butt shagging (lol ) Mancs??? You can't play Butt and Gerrard along side each other!! They are far to similar (apart from the fact Gerrard is much better). England need an DM (Gerrard) and an AM (Scholes, Murphy , Cole etc).

well dyer is out so theres 1 gone

and i was playing butt and gerrard as a holding pair in a midfield 5 with 3 more attacking players in my preferred team above

and gunner you are totally wrong Gerrard and Butt are totally diffrent players, if you ever watched your own team play then you will know that Haman plays the Holding (Butt) role and Gerrard plays a more attacking role. Personally I think that in a midfiled 4 Butt and Gerrard makes more sense than Scholes Gerrard because when Gerrard plays next to Scholes he starts going foreward too much and your left with Scholes holding the midfield. with Gerrard and Butt you've got 2 players who can attack and defend with Butt offering a slightly better defensive side and Gerrard offering better Attacking but both are solid.

Maybe in 2-3 years you can say Gerrard is a better holding player because that comes with experience but right now he does not have the discapline. Cast your mind back the the 1st 2 minutes of the charity shield in a world cup he would have gone.

But if you think that one of Englands best performers in the world cup should not get a start then thats fine after all its a game of opinions

But would Butt have played if Gerrard had been fit?

I reckon he would have in some cases and not necasserily from the start but he would have played

also i'm sure you could say that about some of the players el tel picked(see linekar) for his world cup run which by England standards was a good one.

I think its fair to say that Gerrards performances for England have not been very consistant. When you compare how he played against the hun (Out of this world) to the way he play in the next games you might agree.

Butt has turned a corner in the last two years, I think it goes back to 2000 when he got sent off twice in 2 games it seemed to change him. Now his challanges are good and he seems totally unphased by any situation, even when he gets mowed down by some dirty argy he just gets up, brushes himself off and gets on with it. When the wistle blows its like the same Nicky Butt in every game.

And also he is injury prone and that goes against him, even though its not his fault it all adds up to what a country thinks is a good or bad player (see anderton).

When it comes to England I am not antiscous or any other team and believe me I'm most critical of the utd contingent

I will openly admit that Mills had a good world cup barr 1 stupid yellow and that Gerrard and Owen were heros against the hun just as i'd admit that they have done nothing much since.

Beckham was pretty shyte in the world cup prolly down to fitness and maybe he shouldnt have gone.

Phil neville deserved a kick in the balls for sending us home from euro2000.

Beckham in WC 98 I actually put 40% down to him being a total prick which he was at the time 30% to cheating argy bastard Simione and 30% to total jumped up prick of a ref Kim Nielson

I am not anti anything England (apart from when Hoddle was in charge). So I will have to beg to differ with you Major (it won't be the first or the last time). But IMO Butt and Gerrard fill the same sort of role for England, and it won't be often when they play together.

Don't get me wrong, I do think Butt did a fantastic job in the WC, it is just I think he is not as good as Gerrard...

But Gerrard does well to play any more than 2 games in a row!
