    Sagem MYX-5

Anyone have one of these? They're 150 on PAYG or 50 on contract on 121.

They're nice looking , good features, colour screen, Hi-Fi polyphonic tones, games, anim screen savers etc.

Check the link and let me know your thoughts guys... Thanks

    Hi,

Sagem isn't my most favourite make, but they do look appealing compared to the older ones.
Although, if you buy one, make sure it's not on Orange or T-Mobile as they are not easy to unlock ($4000 for solution )

    Regards

if you are spending that kind of money on a mobile (payg) then you could also look at the panasonic gd 67 its the same price as the sagem, but is full colour, has recordable ringtones, games etc.. in fact a lot more features for the same amount of money (only on voda payt at the moment i think)

Panasonic GD67 looks good on the picture, but in hand it's quite plasticky and for gods sake, who the hell invented this picture holder on the back, yuck! Battery life seems short too. There was something about this phone that turned me off. I know Sony Ericsson users will love it. You know - the kind of people who like metallic blue latex girly candy sort of stuff.

Sagem is known for their old ugly and inferrior phone series. At the end of the day we are talking about French products - no technological revoilutions there since midevil, err.. sorry.. i mean - medival times. Surprisingly though My X5 is quite a good phone - the menus are clear, the screen is perfect and power save/wake on incoming implementation is "oh my god", that good. Sound is clear, speaker phone sounds amazing for the size of this thing and I just managed 6 days of stand by with few smses a day. The quirks? Well - let's say Sagem is in the early stages of "phone usage logistics" designs, I'd say they're currently matching Siemens design level from late nineties ans Y2k. What do I mean by that? It's the little things - like - they let you bind "SMS" to quick menu buttons (two under the screen) but the option is "Read SMS" instead of "Write SMS". Who would want to read old messages - you wanna press one button and start typing, right? Or things like - T9 is always on when you enter SMS composer, if you switch it off your personal setting is not memorised. A lot of people can type message on the keypad faster than using T9, especially if you use more than one language for messaging from English phone. So, Sagem with their menus is definitely "there", but "not quite yet on the finish line". They have poliphonic, "hi fi" ringtones to show up with, what do they put - cow's moo and cat's meow. And I mean it literaly.

Whether you decide to go for GD67 or MyX5 you have to keep in mind you are about to enter the twighlight support zone. Despite the adverts on manufacturers websites there will be no fancy facias on street corners, no data cables in every Carphone Whorehouse, no desk/USB/laptop chargers from highstreet shops. If you kill your battery it will probably remain stiff untill you accidentaly bump into some ebay trader who "ordered them by mistake and have few in stock". You won't be able to show off with latest Pat Whatshisface hit or Tom Dick and Harry boyband ringtones unless you somehow get hold of a cable, track down some midi files and upload to your phone by yourself. Noone will unlock them for you this year. They might not snap photos of Grizzly bear in your tent and you probably won't receive pictures of Angassi's butt from Gabriela Sabattini. They can be used as phones though, and surprisingly - they're not that bad to talk to either.
If you are orange user - don't get either of them - orange first OSes are always bad and shagged, and they update them only for most popular phones (read Nokias).

I was gonna get the sagem and buy the cable direct from them (probably really expensive but i know a few people who have these who i can make money out of) you download the software for pics, ringers etc from the sagem site so thats hal f the problem solved! Still waiting anyway.... i got my 6310i to play with at the moment.
