Default What gear do we need to feed hunt?

    I'll cut to the chase.

My Dad is after getting some serious satellite hardware, on the "feed-hunting" side of things. He already has Sky Digital, and is well aware that he'll need to ditch the Sky mini-dish. He's been clueing himself up on it for months now (reading the magazines at Smiths on his lunchbreak!). Old people are so cute. :

The point of this thread is to see what hardware you seasoned hunters are using, and in what price range we'd be looking at to get a similar set-up. Obviously we're talking a nice STB and a motorised dish to begin with. The hard part for us is "which"?

He wants to be able to view most if not all of the feeds listed on the 'Feed Hunters' forum. Not something that will only be able to sweep a small postage-stamp sized part of the sky.

So, for those who couldn't be arsed to read the above: What gear do we need to hunt for feeds?

And: Can you keep your $ky Digital setup as well?

Thanks guys, and sorry about the "cut to the chase" bit... it kinda got out of hand.

Just checked out the following page:

    http://www.brymar.co.uk/acatalog/Onl...Systems_2.html

We're looking at the Humax 5400 (patched) kit at the bottom of the page, with 1.1m dish. We understand that we'd need planning permission first. Anyway, a few questions:

    1) Would we be able to recieve the majority of satellites (as in, what you guys can see anyway) on Clarkes belt with this set-up?
    2) Is this kit actually any good?

    Thanks.

sorry mate, haven't been here for a few days..

Ok, well, the Humax's are good ig you just want to watch tv, or want to watch the feeds that other people post on here. However, they are a piece of shit when it comes to feed hutning.

Seriously, you want to get a Nokia box if you can.. if you get a 9600 you'll need to get a Magic CAM, the other Nokia boxes can be patched with the AllCAM patch.

The Nokias have a superb built in tuner which goes off and finds the feeds for you, all you need to do is key in the frequency and polarisation (Set FEC to Auto and 0 for Symbol Rate)

So, it's upto you what you want. You'd have to install DVB2000 in the Nokia but to be honest, if you can get a second hand one these days, you could bet your bollocks it's already installed!

I got one a few weeks ago and it had it on

The Nokias also have a scsi interface which comes in useful. Not just for lightning quick firmware upgrades but you can also record to HD with programs such as DVB-Recorder.

Ihave my Humax 5400 downstairs which I use for watch tv and the Nokia upstairs connected via the Humax's loopthrough and via scsi into my pc... great for feeds, plus you can record them

Hope this helps, hope it ain't too late dude

I got mine from e-bay, have a look. There's a sat shop beginning with H that sells Nokia boxes still.

    Hello.
One further thing about the Nokia 9600.There are 2 types available. The earlier ones have different tuners.Great for feed hunting. The later ones are not so good as they have a different tuner.I'm not sure at what time they changed tuners. If you check at some of the Nokia forums, you will get this information.
    Regards.
