Default Icewind Dale II *RE*view @ gamesdomain!

Quite surprising to me, seeing such a nice/complete REview since the game is scheduled for september.

    LOL

Anyway, finally a good RPG to pass the time. The first good one this year.
Oh, and it has been gold since around one month, so it's no wonder they got a review.

    grumble...3rd edition rules
    [rant]
I want to pick my characters from well defined classes when i start. I also want at least 10 subclasess with extra skills for every class I can pick. I don't want a generic Warrior without any character. I certainly don't want a warrior/cleric/carpenter/pornstar/7-11 employee with 1 level in each.

At least thats my impression of 3E rules after playing NWN, I've never played the PnP so I wouldn't know if the whole system is like that.
    [/rant]

On the other hand, a new RPG! YAY!

I fucking HATE 3rd edition rules. I think they pretty much ruined AD&D. It's like the stupidified it so the current generation of fucktard kids would understand it and play it. Unless you make everything all super powerful and shit they wouldn't be interested.

Really took awhile for me to stomach the fact that NWN let clerics use swords, that's just so SO wrong.

Yeah, NWN is really messed up in that fashion with the Druids wearing Chain Mail and the Clerics using Swords (although it depends on their patron deity of course), I hope Black Isle is more strict with their interpretation of the 3rd Edition Rules. I mean, BioWare decided to divide Armour statistics by how much AC they offer, so a Chain Shirt which was light armour became medium armour, causing Rangers that wanted to dual wield to lose the best beginning armour.

Another thing missing from NWN is Prestige Classes, which are basically another character level you get from reaching a certain level and certain other requirements (so you get a character that is Wizard7/Archmage2 or something). Prestige classes are rather important to the game cause they make your characters a little more unique (like a Prestige Class that allows Clerics to have up to 6 domains or more, I forgot the exact number.)

Here's to hoping there's prestige classes (They have Epic Levels so why not Prestige Classes?).

Gotta agree with Scott on this one. I've never seen so many RPG geeks in one thread before.

Am I the only one that has lost all my hopes for a great RPG since Baldur's Gate 2? NWN feels like diablo or dungeon siege, it has nothing of the depth, charm or the intellectual feel of the BG series.
I think Icewind 2 will be good though, it seems alot better than the original, but a little bit like hack and slash still.
It will be great fun to fire up the old infinity engine again though, an engine that after so long time kickas NWN's aurora engine's ass, for this type of game.
