    Default Air Bag light flashing

    Hi,
I know this is not a milage correction question....but I thought this was the nearest forums to post in.

I have a R Reg Peugeot 306 D Turbo and the air bag light has starting flashing. Is there any way to Disable it/ turn it off.

I dont want to just strip it down and un sloder the LED...I know this can be done via the ECM.

    Any Ideas

Its the connection under one of the seats m8 . Tie wrap the connections together and you should be ok .

its an R reg so there might be one under both seats if it has passenger side airbag?. You may also need to take it to a main dealer to get it reset which is usually free. I know its not the same car but its a common problem on Vectra's and i have taken mine to be reset atleast 3 times this year.

Any "bodge it" method of disabling the airbag light can result in you doing a few years in jail if your passenger is in a accident and dies due to a failure of the airbag...

    Also

When you go to resell the car and if the new owner dies from a accident.. If the cops notice the airbag(s) did not go off they have powers to get the car checked over to find out why the airbag(s) did not deploy and if they find that the airbag light has been "tampered" with they will trace previous owners and you could then be doing time for manslaughter.

This can be avoided by giving the new buyer a letter stating what you have done with the airbag system and get them to co sign it and you keep a copy. But this does not stop the fact that if you have a passenger airbag or side airbags that if your passenger dies from an accident while you are driving then your up shit creek because obviously you are not going to go thru the hassle of getting them to sign something each time they get in the car

Just something for you to think about before you do it..

Obviously these are extreme cases but anything is possible.

    ----

My advice is to take it into a dealer or specialist with diagnostic software get them to clear the airbag fault (resulting in the airbag light going off) if it comes back on then you do have a airbag fault that needs attention and how you deal with that is upto you. But if you have no had any accidents the light is most likely coming on from a "gremlin" in the system and thus you will not have any problems after its reset... or if it comes back on then its more likely a wiring fault with a lack of current going to the controlling units..

Its somewhat uncommon for the actual airbags and/or the controlling unit(s) to be faulty..

Also if you unsolder the light it does not stop the airbags.. So if there is a major fault in the airbag system you could be driving along the m25 at 80mph and have your airbags go off... If you do decide to go down the "bodge it" route.. make sure you disable the controlling unit(s)

Peugeots dont need to go to the dealers to reset the airbag light . It is a self diagnosing system , There is a modified wiring loom available for under the seats , but this is only the same loom , but with more tighter connections to the seat belt stalks .
On the early ones the connectors were very loose and prone to moving , thus tie wrapping them together stopped it .
The seat belt stalks , even if they weren't connected at all wont stop the airbag going off in an accident .
All cars fitted with such a system will have connections to both front seats , whether they have a passenger airbag or not .

Chaps being a fireman i see first hand what happens when air bags dont go off or have been disabled. If you have a problem get it sorted. If you ever needed it cos some ass pulls out on you if could mean the difference between getting out the car and kicking the twat or 10 months off plastic surgury rebuilding your face.
Im off to a place of worship and wont be back till closing time
