Default Help: Downsampling without loosing audio

As some of you may or may not know, when downsampling some video files (ie. bik format), the audio track, though present, is no longer compatible for playback on the X-box.

For example, the retail copy of STREET HOOPS is 5.1 gigs large. In order to fit the game on a DVD-r, you can opt to downsample some of the .bik video files so nothing is ripped in the end. However, when downsampling the video files the audio track becomes incompatible with the X-box (as stated above). This was the obvious problem with the WAM iso release. However, RIOT was able to fix this. So there is a SOLUTION!!!

Would anyone know how to properly downsample the movies so the audio track is still compatible for playback on the X-box??

I've been using Rad Video Tools to handle all the downsampling. Could this be the problem??
Are there any other alternative video downsampling programs out there that are compatible with .bik files???

Thanks for any help/suggestions in addvance.

STREET HOOPS 5.1 to 4.3 gigs

I used Rad Video Tools on files SHIntvue.bik,SHMastrp.bik and SHMstrpo.bik in the FMV folder.
The size of the game now is 4.35 gigs.
Burned it and audio and video are fine and the game plays well.
Some of the files are linked so you will NOT want to downsample them " SHA1mxt3.bik----> SHA1mxt4.bik---> SHA1mxt5.bik "

If you stick to SHIntvue.bik, SHMastrp.bik and SHMstrpo.bik then burn you will be fine.
    I hope this helps

    BTW
It will take about 15 hrs to complete the job 8-((

I've been using RAD VIDEO TOOlS too, and for some reason the X-box just won't play the audio track back on these downsampled files, even though it is still encoded and present. This may probably be a SETTINGS issue now...

Would you mind listing off your settings you used for RAD VIDEO TOOLS when downsampling the video/audio for the .bik files?

I still can't get audio out of the downsampled bik videos... Driving me nuts!

Thanks for all the help in advance.

    I WAS WRONG !!!
I just checked all the videos in the game and no audio on the ones I downsampled.
Sorry about that I had to search to find them but when I did they had no audio ,$hit another dvd+r coaster.

I will check around and see what I can find..
Please let me know if you find something

I will definitely post an answer if I find a solution to this problem anytime soon.

Keep in mind, there is a SOLUTION!
RIOT was able to successfully downsample these movie files. Mad props to them! Perhaps they would share the info on how they downsampled such videos with those of us who rather copy our own "back-ups" rather than d/l them.

Im not sure if this will help but here is information i have found.

When i downsampled Jedi Starfighter, i got no sound in the movies. When i downsampled Gun Metal with the same settings, the movies had sound. I think it is an issue with Street Hoops decoding of Bik files and the correct rip probably addressed the decoding side of it.

I have a further question, when downsample the sound files in Jedi, i went from Stereo to Mono and from 48khz to 22khz. Now all the sound is like way too fast, is there any other downsampling that will work if i have to leave it at 48khz. Will knocking it to 8-bit as opposed to 16-bit work or will it still be too fast?

That is probably the same/related problem as with Street Hoops, I assume.
I've tried some combos of downsampling the bits and khz... and still no luck. However, this still may be the solution. I'll still continue with my investigation (slowly)... :-)

    Thanks
