upgrading with winxp installed

i`m doing a compleat upgrade, using a new Case, M/B, Processor, Graphics card, Ram and bits from my old PC.
the OS i`m using is XP. when i`ve put everything together and powered up i get "connot find NTLDR" and the system stops. i have created a dos boot-up disc but that only takes me to dos windows. from there i tried to re-install winXP but it will install from dos. is there an easier way to fixing this problem?

Change bios to boot from CD put CD into CD-ROM the PC will boot and give you options.and then do a format from there, then clean install XP

Is your HD formatted with NTFS or FAT32?

If you follow Zulus advice above all should work however if it doesnt try formatting and install XP onto a FAT32 partition.

From his post above, it seems like he wants to use his old hard drive, that already had XP installed, I wouldn't do that, but that's what he asked.

So, if he wants to try that, why are you advising him to reformat, if it can be avoided?

If you are using a OLD Win9x boot up disk it wont help you cant read NTFS with a normal Win9X bootup disk. Did the system already have WinXP on and u upgraded (changed) motherboard? Just set it to boot to CD-Rom and make sure your winXP setup cd is in the CD drive. If you read your WinXP manual it explains how to do this.

If all else fails, install Win95 then stick winXP in and install over the top of it
