Default Upgrade to IE6 SP1 Problems..

Now normally I can fix most things with my PC but this one has got me stumped...

Upgraded Xp to SP1 and IE6 to SP1 yesterday. Before the upgrade all runing well, but now, whenever I click on a link that opens in an external (new) window, nothing happens.

The link doesn't appear in the address bar and the status bar shows no activity.

Anyone know why this would be the case?

If I open a new window (ctrl+n) and then paste in the URL it works, but thats annoying ..

    Any idea's??

One of my mates has got the exact same problem but it was caused by him uninstalling a popup killer. You not got one installed too have you? If so try re-installing/de-installing.

    let me explain again.

When I click a link on a webpage that opens in a new page, like this link here www.google.com the new window opens, but no URL appears in the address bar and nothing loads. Just an empty window (not even a 404 etc)

Links that open in the same window, like the forum links here are fine...

    Hello all....

Need some help with the same problem....

Basically the problem is the same as already stated here.

I have tried re-registering the .dll's but it made no difference...

Is there anything else I could try..

    What OS mate?

Are you running any popup software or firewall stuff - if so have you tried temporarily disabling it just in case?

What about proxy / autoconfig settings - anything in there?

Do you have a custom branded IE install, ie Freeserve, Tiscali etc?

If you can let us know the exact version of IE & Windows then we'll see what we can see - were all the registry keys etc referred to in the MS KB article there?

Hello mate. Thanks for the reply...

    The OS is win98 SE....

No proxy settings to worry about.

The computer is linked via ICS in win98SE to the internet. Both use WIN 98 SE

All registry keys OK and I re-registered the .dll files mentioned and still I can't use web links within Outlook 98 or IE version 6.

    Any help appreciated

    thanks gurry

Not sure on 98 mate, for the time it takes on 98 a rebuild is probably the best option.

Alternatively, have a look around support.microsoft.com/support but most of the articles I saw related to similar fixes to those above.

Are there any new IE6 service packs out there you could apply?

Or could you try reverting to a vanilla IE6 build, ie no service packs installed?

    What about IE5 even?
