    Mobo Prob ?

    Hi
Just been given a base unit to have a look at,on pressing power
switch,Powers supply starts up,cpu fan is working and power is going to hard
    drive,cdrom etc.
Both power and hd lights stay on,there is no video output at all, and i
cant hear the machine trying to access the h,drive
I have swopped over the graphics card and h,drive ,and stick of ram for
spares i have here ,but get the same problems
The m,board is a Msi MS 6340 and 1gig Athlon cpu
Is there a problem with the bios ?
    Cheers for any info

Strip it down to the bare essentials - unplug the HDD, CD, FDD, Modem - anything that you don't absolutely need to see a display on the screen, sometimes the drives/cards are dead and effectively shorting the system.

    Otherwise, clear the CMOS battery.

From the board/spec, is it a Tiny machine??

Tiny by name, Tiny by nature. At a guess, it's the miniscule 145w PSU, when the processor wants a minimum of 150w. The PSU is occasionally knackered, but it's usually the board being dead from a minor power surge, sometimes both. I see about 3 a month same symptoms.

Plug another PSU in, otherwise it's the board. If it's the PSU, I have a couple of spares, BUT!!! I seriously recommend replacing the case and fitting a heftier PSU since their case won't take a decent standard ATX one, regardless of wether the PSU is dead or not. If they insist on keeping the case, the PCChips 810LR fits and works fine on that spec, but the PSU is overworked, and it'll do it again. Advent PCs were made in the same place as the Tinys, and suffer from the 145w PSU problems as well.

Oh, and they also use the Fujitsu hard drives:
