    Strange problem. Constant Disconnections.

I'm with pipex on the wires only dsl.
I have a Connexant PCI modem using the latest drivers from Mad-House.com.
    I'm running win 98 SE.
    512Meg DDR
    SoundBlaster Live 1024.

All was fine up until about two weeks ago. I left the thing on all weekend without a problem. Restarted the machine on monday night when I got home and then I got constant disconnection problems. Thought it was pipex but it worked fine in win XP pro so I decided to do a reinstall of the win 98 system. All was going well till I installed my soundcard drivers then I got the same problem so I disabled the sound card and It worked fine again.

Has anybody else had a conflict between a soundblaster live and a connexant PCI modem.

Can anyone offer any sugestions on a fix ??

    Cheers

I used to have problems with sound blaster live sharing irq`s onwith my dvd decoder on a abit mother board, try using it in a diferent slot so they don`t share the same irq..

Dont rule out Pipex my conection has been up and down for the last 2 weeks now only today has is been stable .. they have been having problems.

Not had a problem in XP. Only in w98SE. It does seem like a conflict with the soundcard. Still investigating. Moving slots made no difference.

Can you uninstall service pack one ????

Still does it, i dont think sp1 is related, as people are having problems in 98 and so forth, i'm also investigating.

Its the soundcard for sure, as when i disable sound its fine, i changed irq's of my onboard soundcard, made no difference.

Strange one. Have you got the live 1024. Also can you tell me what drivers version you are using..

In XP I'm just using the XP driver that come son the disk.

In 98 I'm using the latest download from creative site...

Not very helpful to you i know but ive got a problem with my conexant pci modem too, It works great on a first install but when you power down/up it wont pick up the line untill you uninstall it then reinstall it. Looked around a bit and the cure seemed to bet to change IRQ's but this hasnt helped me at all, there seems to be allsorts of problems with this device. Works great though untill you power down, I'm running XP pro.

I must admit after I got the latest drivers from mad-house.com I had no problems at all with the modem until now. All my problems seemed to stem from pipex.

To be honest I don't think it is too bad...
