    24/7... I reboot when I have to but that still counts as 'on'

    Aidan - 937 days is around 2 and a half years. Meaning he's had Win2k server installed since April 1999. A full 26 months before it was released.

    Pegasus - What's that smell?

    That's on hell of a sturdy beta edition you've got there..... I don't think lol

    Win 2K server was officially available from October 99. I'm still using beta 1 because I don't have (and can't be arsed) to spend a FULL day rebuilding a PDC (which is how long it takes if you are going to do the job properly).

    If you think it's bullshit then you are more than welcome to come around and have a look for yourself.

    Yes it is beta, but it certainly ain't that sturdy.

    EDIT:
    In case you are wondering how I got my hands on such an early beta the answer is quite simple, I "borrowed" it from where I work (the company I work for are official MS beta testers and we get everything early).

    i've still got a really early version here that's called nt5 workstation from the end of 97

    now that was an early beta!!

    are you signed up to technet plus or msdn?

    I was signed up to Technet Plus for two years but in the end I gave up as it was getting too expensive plus I just use the disks from work now...

    as for the uptime tho, have you changed irp stack size, heap sizes or anything??

    in fact mate, do you keep resetting the clock as all the ms betas i saw always expired on a certain date... they were buggers for doing this with the evals which would blue screen after a predetermined period after the eval period had expired.

    in fact you may not find this an issue til you do try rebooting, in the event of a bsod you'd be knacked til you changed the clock.

    I beg to differ. Win2000 Professional was released to Manufacturers in December 99. Server didn't make it to manufacturers till June 2001. You can't tell me that your super early "unsturdy" beta has been up and running that long without a single crash requiring reboot.

    @aidanjpadden,
    My company are MSDN and yes I do have to keep knocking the system clock back.

    @Mr.James,
    Why should it crash? It's doing sweet FA to start with.
    Also, do I detect a note of cynicism in your voice when you say "super early "unsturdy" beta"?
    I would hardly call 14 months (if we go by your dates) "super early", Aiden himself has already told us that he obtained a version of Win 2K at least 2 years before it went RTM. Get yourself signed up as an MSDN and you will be surprised at what you get and how early you get it.

    Already got MSDN and Technet subscriptions matey.
    Windows "Codename" Whistler Server Beta 2 - May 2001.

    All I'm saying is that I don't believe any Microsoft beta released that early hasn't crashed once. DX9 crashes hourly and Win2k server betas 1 and 2 weren't far behind that when I tested them.

    Alpha is Latin for "Doesn't Work"
    Beta is Latin for "Still Doesn't Work"

    24/7 unless we have people staying, as it's in the spare room, or if the girlfriend has used it, she either disconnects it the ADSL or shuts it down. only reboots are for service packs or booting into 98.

    I sometimes leave mine on 24/7. Next year when I build a file server I'll keep it on 24/7.

    Right hand click on on a folder when you have your FTP client connected. you should get an option to change the permissionsof the folder.

    Absoloute FTP does it - you will have to play around on the permissions
