    Default Would a 1 GHz Athlon bottleneck a Ti4600?

    Like the post says, here are my comp specs;

    Abit KG7-RAID Mobo
    Athlon 1 GHz t-Bird 200 MHZ FSB
    384 MB PC1600 DDR (200 mhz)

    My question is would my CPU or RAM be a bottleneck to the GF4 Ti4600 or Ti4400? I am thinking that the RAM might because its first generation DDR (curse me for hoping on DDR bandwagon when it just came out), and its only 200 MHz, unlike todays PC2700, etc.

    I am also thinking that the CPU could be a bottlneck. If it is I would probably get an AXP 2100+ from newegg, because its the fastest my mobo supports.

    Please give feedback, thanks

    Yeah, your CPU will most definately hold the Ti4600 back, hell it would keep even a Ti4200 back. You really would benefit from a processor running at higher FSB.

    yup it would definetly bottleneck it.

    All the hardware sites recommend top of the line processors for the Ti4400 and 4600, otherwise its not worth it. I have a athlon 850 and just recently upgraded to a radeon 8500 and it made almost no difference in a lot of games. I say upgrade your cpu first.

    just to give you an idea...

    before upgrade: p3 1.0/ti4400, 3dmark - 6858

    after upgrade: p4 2.4/ti4400, 3dmark - 11998

    makes a little bit of difference i think

    Same with my GF4 Ti 4200.

    I haven't upgraded my CPU, but just taking it from 1.2Ghz (100mhz FSB) to 1.33Ghz (133mhz FSB) gave me about a 25-33% performance boost in OpenGL apps and almost the same in D3D ones.

    The FSB really gives you a big boost...Do that 2100+ would have a 133mhz FSB and also a much higher overall speed, which should be great for a GF4 Ti. (The "greatest" your particular mobo could handle I mean)
