    Default 97' Nissan Micra

    Ello!

In the UK I used to own a 92' Nissan Micra 998cc manual. It was realiable, nothing went wrong with the thing and servicing was cheap!

Today I am looking at buying another micra, this time a 97' 1300cc Manual, and I wanted to ask if anyone has any experience with that particular model?

Servicing in Japan is silly money, so I was looking at servicing the car myself, would a haze(sp) book be alright for self servicing purposes?

    errr thanks in advance!

    Jon

Oh the car is here : http://classifieds.gaijinpot.com/ind...ticle_id/36778

    Cheers.

Spelt Hayes, they do have instructions on weekly/monthly/annual maintenance and how to do all routine jobs around the vehicle, and replace parts that tend to break. Personally I'd be a bit wary of fucking around with brakes and any other really important stuff, but any other job is quite achievable if you aren't retarded and able to take it slowly and carefully.

No idea what they cost in Japan but here they are usually about £8-£20 or something I think.

EDIT: I just checked the Haynes (third time lucky between us on the spelling there) manuals that I have for my cars and discovered that they are even better than I thought for servicing - they have a page with a list of how often to do each job (every year, every 10k miles etc) then instructions on how to do each job. Every job is a 1-spanner easy DIY job, apart from a few that need specialist equipment (checking the engine's onboard computer for diagnostic codes, emissions check, and headlight beam alignment) which are 5-spanner non-DIY ones, and a few 2-spanner slightly trickier DIY jobs like adjusting brake fluid.

FYI all jobs in Haynes manuals are rated between 1 and 5 Spanners for difficulty.

I had a '95 1.3S years ago and I loved it. Handled like a go kart and was nippy enough for town. Sod all luxuries but was surprising fun to drive.

Mate, a Haynes manual will be ideal. I do the servicing on my own car, apart from things like timing belts, etc. I leave that stuff to the garages.

However, changing discs, pads, oils, coolant, etc are all a piece of piss. Providing you are reasonably competent. I say go for it. Will also be a good learning experience for you, and as twoplanks said, all jobs are rated from 1-5 depending on their difficulty (1 being easy, and 5 being hard).

Check here for some of the Haynes phrases translated into less technical, easier to understand terms: http://www.mez.co.uk/haynes.html
