    Default Corrupt TAR Archive

    Spent most of this weekend downloading a 1.4gig Tar file. Unforunately due to connection loss, the download had to be resumed a number of times.

    When I came to unpack this file, received "archive is corrupt" from WinRAR and "Error reading header after processing 1 entries.." from WinZip.

    The file consists of 100 or so packed files - Is there anyway to jump ever the bad/corrupt file and unpack the next file? At least then I could get most of the download.

    Any help would be appreciated on this..

    Thanks
    Blackouk

    Try using dos with the tag -kb..

    unrar e -kb filename

    I think that should work for you.

    Dos wouldn't recognise 'unrar' as a command. Thats if I got the syntax right!

    No I wasn't! I'm at work at the moment and tested it on this pc - Worked fine, thanks.

    Gonna try it with the corrupted file, when I get home. Does it make a difference that the corrupted file is a .Tar?

    That's strange... Can you be sure it's a tar file??

    And is it just the 1 file with the extension .tar you have??

    Oh, and is that the movie signs??

    Yeah, it's definately a .tar file. I've tried renaming it to a .rar file and use WinRAR's repairer function. WinRAR wasn't able to repair it saying something about not having a header section, that's how I know its a .tar file because they don't have headers.

    It's just the one file - 1.4g in size!!

    Yes it's the screener of Signs by EM, supposidly a really good movie, if I could ever get to watch it

    PS - I've I ever get this unpacked, I'll send you a copy for all your help

    Is there a possability that it could be gzipped?? Cos large tar files are usually .tar.gz

    Try renaming it to filename.tar.gz then run gunzip, then untar..

    May work, dunno.

    Failing that you could always see if wintar gives any more info.

    ps, I've seen signs, wasn't my thing..

    It definately wasn't the same source - same channel, bots had similar names

    BTW - PowerArchiver couldn't open it, but WinTAR is reading some of the files at the moment, but it's taking a while. I'll get back tomorrow let you know how I got on.

    Success!!!!

    WinTAR not only managed to read most of the files, but extract them too. Ran the extracted files through Azza-SFV (checks the validity of .sfv files and associated rar's) and here's the result...

    CD1 = 37 ok, 17 missing
    CD2 = 47 ok, none missing

    Only have to download 17 more files and i've got it!!

    btw, if anyone has a dodgy .tar file download the SCSI version of WinTAR. Remote version will view but won't extract the files.

    doughboy, you're a diamond! Thanks for all your help on this. I owe you one!
