Default A little moan about my car!

Just fed up how every other bolt is either seized like mad, and even an impact gun won't take it off unless it's heated up and glowing cherry red.

Either that, or the damn things simly shear off!! Went to change the bolts holding my reg plates on today. Nice simple job, and the old ones were rusted and looked tacky, so went and bought 4 stainless steel ones for less than £1 at the local fastners place. Removed the first one on the back fine, onto the second one, and it begins to turn, but it's quite stiff, then next thing the damn head shears off!

Now a 2 min job has turned into a pain in the ass! Out comes the drill, drill a small hole through the bolt first, then move onto a bigger drill but, and while drilling the damn drill bit snaps off in the hole too!!

Luckily, it had prettyt much served it's purpose, so got a hammer and a pin, and knocked the drill bit out the other side. Re-tapped the whole and all was well again, but WTF does a 2 minute job ALWAYS end up being a 2 hour job (note, the reg plate only took 10 mins to sort)?! Last time I did something, I was changing all the oils. Got to the transfer box and ended up rounding off the fill bolt (luckly before dropping the oil) and cracked 2 sockets that I tried to hammer over it, one was even an impact wrench socket!! Got that sorted in the end too tho, but it took over 2 HOURS to undo 1 god damn bolt!

That's my little rant over, just annoying how simple jobs are never simple!

Looking at your DF photo album, it doesn't seem you have issues with the ladies mate. Unless you are referring to "unbolting" them!

Agree tho, my house has quirky things like that. Simple jobs ending up making more problems that they need to...

You have my deepest sympathies - I know the pain well.

The best one probably was when I thought my front head gasket went on the alfa. In the end I found it was a cracked cylinder, ended up doing nearly a fully bottom end rebuild.

Stuff like this is why I have endless respect for mechanics. A couple of times I've started something and had to get someone else to finish - they don't get that option.

This is the reason I never try to do jobs on my house/car/bike. It's always better in the end run to pay someone else to do it. From painting my front room to changing the strings on my guitar to changing the innertube on my bike. Just pay some fooker else to do it and life is better and always better than if I'd done it myself!

I know it's about pc's rather than cars but I think this xkcd sums it up well.
