Default reported for no indicators.. what will happen?

well, if I didn't have bad luck I'd have no luck at all lately..

while on the way to a job my bloody indicator switch snapped off, i nearly made it all the way home but the plod tugged me probably less than 100 yards from my house (cheeky cnut didn't even have headlights on yet lectured me over safety)

apparently it's two seperate offences since I couldn't use either side indicators (wtf!) I've never had anything like this before, spotless driving record etc. she put it down as mechanical failure though.

I'm just wondering what you experience you guys have had and what is likely to happen, the plod did explaint that it could go to court, but would be unlikely.. the last thing i need is a fine though..

Would have thought you would be given a producer - I had that years ago with my headlights being faulty. Got them fixed got the stamp from my local garage - no fine.

I was given nothing but a caution m8 (no paperwork), i explained that I would be "wheeling" the bike to a local garage in the morning and she warned me that I couldn't ride it whatsoever without indicators, she never said I had so long to get it repaired or whatever tho. Even made me push it the rest of the way home which was uphill. I'm sure she said I'd hear something through the post..

any vehicle registered after 1st april 1985 must have working turn signals - so technically plod was right, twat of a copper though - all coppers i know wouldn't make a fuss about it.

my bet is that you get the 'after considering the circumstances we believe you have learnt your lesson this time and will not be pursuing this offence any further, blah, blah' letter. (if you get anything at all)
    dont sweat it m8

Up the motorway i got pulled because my plate came up on the ANPR system, after sitting in the plod car for 30mins, Mr plod finally got hold of the copper who reported my plate, and what did he report me for "The manner of my driving" WTF i get a producer because they dont like the way i was driving.. jesus

aren't arm signals still in the highway code ? I thought that was for these exact situations.

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum.../dg_070566.pdf

Anyways, when this sort of thing has happened to me, I have been given a notice to put the item right, which has to then be stamped by a MOT station and sent back.

Unusual for them to report you tbh, unless you were being arsey with the copper...

I wasn't actually, I didn't even mention her lights at the time - and I was using arm signals but she said that wasn't safe either.

are you sure it was an actual police officer and not someone playing ? I'm sure you should have been given a form to say that you were stopped and what happened, with their numbers etc. Sounds very suspect to me

I was stopped and searched by three btp officers a few weeks back. I have no reason to doubt whether they were genuine but no record of the search was offered.

stop and search is entirely different (and currently very political!), they weren't reporting you for any offence either.

Very true indeed, but a record should have been offered - I was just pointing out that just because a copper doesn't operate totally 110% within the laws they are enforcing, it doesn't mean they aren't a copper.

I'm pretty sure it was a real plod, i passed her at a junction and on the next junction (pretty close by) there was another (that one had it's headlights on tho).. I kinda knew one of them would end up on my ar$e.. both junctions are in very close proximity to a plod station, infact from the 2nd junction you'd see the station.

Do you think I should call the station and lay it all out and ask weather there is any record?

come to think of it, they were on the radio doing license and persons check.. (although I didn't hear anything from their radio's, didn't notice if she was wearing ear peice)

also, there was nothing for them to gain that I can think of..

Bet they gave you a verbal NIP, its about time they done some proper policing instead of hitting the easy targets all the time but thats too much like hard work, if your bike got nicked they wouldnt wanna know . Id say expect a letter some time in the next 6 months but hope you dont!

Despite what tigger says which is true by law, you only need them to work if they are on, for example I couldnt be arsed wiring my ducati track bike indicators up and needed to MOT it so I just took them off, passed MOT with no notes about indicators as they are only required to work if present, then as Malty says it is still perfectly legal to use hand signals. I imagine if you had used hand signals when she was behind you then she wouldnt have been able to say fuck all. Probably was a young woman too eh? TThey aint got a fucking clue half of these coppers nowadays
