Install usb device windows 7

Trying to get a new lappy up and running for me bro in law
Trying to install usb network but its asking me for a password
I have only just switched it on and never set any passwords for it
I have given it one now but says its the wrong one
Now i have taken it off again
Any idears lads .................Paul

I'm not sure, but when i installed 7 on my lappy, windows produced a password and asked me to make a note of it for use in networks????

Is this not just your homegroups password for setting up media sharing with other pc's.

Ime trying to install a wifi dongle and its asking for a password
Theres only me got it out the box brand new
And ive given it none
Am up the wall,If i switch it off ,it may not come back on .,,........Cheers Paul

the router that your trying to connect to might have a preset password or passkey - i would have thought the laptop would have wifi built in by default not needing a separate dongle

usually sky routers have the key on the side of them if its one of them

I just cant install any programs without giveing a password

Sounds like it might be an Admin thing.
Are you logged on as a user or as Admin.
User account must have some restrictions,

Glad its sorted.
But that sound like an EX Display Model , which has a restricted user account,to stop the Public Messing with it.

I would do a Factory reset on it before i went any further with it.
New Laptop should give you the Welcome to Windows and let YOU set the details,

Password = cometpar,now i'm going to try that one next time i'm in comet LOL
