MOHAA no CD Crack

I have an original copy of MOHAA. Played it that much the disc is getting tatty. Found out about this no CD crack thing, D/L it and put it in there. When i start the game (either through GameSpy, or manually for single player for my son) it starts fine, does not ask for the CD, pick the mission etc. Great, try to start the mission, error box appears..there is a problem with MOHAA.etc.

Any ideas Guys.

p.s I am using winXP Pro

Oops,nearly forgot to mention. I have a LOT of extra maps etc. in my MOHAA/Main folder. Also how do you back up your saves (my boy's saves) before a re-install etc. - is it saves\unknown soldier ?
