I started a similar thread here a few weeks back. For me it APPEARS the standards are dropping really badly. I don't know though, maybe it just the increase in TV, the cameras miss nothing these days so its easy to be highly critical, but I do agree it certainly seems as if a lot more is being missed, and some really obvious stuff too.

Stopping players cheating will improve the referee standard.

The ref is the easiest target for managers, players & fans to have a go at when you fail to get the result you want.

Remove all but 1 camera for a live game don't show super slow replays for every decision and the ref will be better. Remember he only gets one look at it at full speed. You get 5+ from every angle & speed.

It winds me up on MOTD when you hear 'the ref wants to be the center of attention' no he does not. Everyone blames him for things that don't go their way so become a talking point by default.

Can't believe I am sticking up for the ref got sent off this morning

The thing is the to main decisions in the Chelsea game were clear as daylight and the ref had a good view of both incidents, Definatley a penalty and Terry should have walked, I agree with what you're saying about tv though its just yesterdays decision imo didnt need to be seen again the ref fucked up, But then we are talking Webb here.

The dinosaurs at the FA need to embrace video technology at some point. Sooner rather than later because the case for it grows by the week.

The referees decisions and/or incorrect decisions generate conversation and helps to build hype into the whole pantomime of football. Its as stage managed as WWF. If we added a 3rd eye like in rugby league the level of passionate discussion on a Sunday/Monday would almost disappear and the back pages of newspapers would be empty!.. Its also the reason why cheating/diving has been allowed to become part of the game!

    IMO
