How to Transfer your Entire iTunes Library

There are a few ways to transfer your entire library to another computer. You can use your iPod, you can use DVDs or CDs and you can use an external hard drive.


Tip
Your iTunes folder is located in your My Music folder:
C:\Users\%USERPROFILE%\My Music\
Replace %USERPROFILE% with your username.




Using DVDs or CDs

1. - Open iTunes

2. - FILE

3. - BACK UP TO DISC

4. - Choose "Back up entire iTunes library and playlists"

5. - BACK UP - You may need to use more than 1 disc in the even of a library larger than the size of your backup media.

6. - Once complete, Open iTunes on new computer and insert discs.


iPod

1. - Connect your iPod to your PC

2. - Enable Disk Use on iPod
iTunes > Select iPod > Summary > Manually Manage Music > OK > Apply
3. Enable Copy Files to iTunes folder when importing
Edit > Preferences > Advanced > General > Check for selection > OK
4. - On Advanced Menu:
Consolidate Library > Consolidate

5. - Copy Files:
Quit iTunes > Locate iPod > Drag iTunes Folder to iPod


6. - On new computer:
Connect iPod > Locate iPod > Open iPod > Drag iTunes folder to My Music folder.
External Hard Drive

1. - Connect your Hard Drive to your PC

2. Enable Copy Files to iTunes folder when importing
Edit > Preferences > Advanced > General > Check for selection > OK
3. - On Advanced Menu:
Consolidate Library > Consolidate

4. - Copy Files:
Quit iTunes > Locate Hard Drive > Drag iTunes Folder to hard drive.

5. - On new computer:
Connect Hard Drive > Locate Hard Drive > Open Hard Drive> Drag iTunes folder to My Music folder.
