Default Opera Mini browser released (free)

Apple haters were waiting with swords drawn in the blogosphere to attack apple for rejecting this. Guess what, they didn't !

First impressions, extremely fast. Way faster than Safari. It doesn't render everything quite right but 'close enough' and the speed is teriffic. Well worth a look.

I genuinely am amazed that they have approved it.

Grabbing it now, time to see how much faster it is than Safari,

    First impressions :-

Amazingly snappy (much more than Safari). There seems to be no zoom control in landscape mode. If that is the case then for me it is unusable as I browse permanently in landscape.

I only browse in portrait and while zoom is there, it's very badly implemented. You're either zoomed in or out and nothing in between (it decides the level of the zoom in)

it's crashed twice this morning but not predictably, as the same page loads fine if you go back in. Some pages also get "stuck" as in you click a link it loads data and displays the old page.

Another problem is that some active controls don't work at all, such as the zoom controls on a mapping site I use daily.

They seem to have sacrificed some accuracy and compatibility for speed.

The zoom implementation is shite, no pinch to zoom makes me go back to safari and wait a bit longer for the pages to load

It will be very handy for situations where there is no 3g or wifi coverage if nothing else. Lets hope its quickly updated to overcome the bugs.
