Ive just bought a laptop (second hand) for my daughter , it has windows 7 professional installed , the laptop itself is excellent but my problem , well her problem is that she cant access certain sites like Facebook and some torrent download sites , can anyone tell me how to get past these restrictions that have been placed on this laptop as i bought it from a trade in shop and Ive been back to see them about it but they have no idea on how to take the restrictions off , it is some sort of parental restriction , Ive asked around friends but they don't have any idea either , any help would be appreciated , thanks for your time

A guy that's brings me all sorts of electricals , asked me to do the very same thing last night,What you need tk do is, open the net intelligence program, log in with the security details and then look through the options and they're should be one where you can un restrict all sorts of sites,

yeah, these laptops for kids government scheme things have heavy net monitoring/blocking and it's not just the standard windows parental controls.. as littlebilly1 has correctly pointed out, it's netintelligence.
I've been asked a couple of times about it, if you haven't filled in your documentation you will probably need to ring them.. bit of a palava.. in my opinion you should format and get rid of all the crap they have put on there in one go..

Sent from my PC using a keyboard
Have a look at the host file
C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
It should look exactly like this if not delete the additional entries at the bottom.
# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
127.0.0.1 localhost
could reinstall or goto control panel then internet options and reset internet explorer to default
A mate of mine asked about this the other day mate.. Looks like it's an app called netintelligence which is doing it. Have a look at THIS THREAD On another site, may help.
Another option is to click on the netintelligence icon in it's programs folder, this will open the web based browser configuration option but you will need an activation code which is allegedly supplied with the PC. May be able to configure/remove the app that way.
