Buying wii to softmod some newb questions

Hi guys

I'm considering buying a wii now cause of smg 2 getting such amazing reviews.

I have read the great guide that renke posted, but I'd just like to confirm a few things if possible.

1/ Can I just go to Amazon or whatever and buy a brand new wii and get it delivered and softmod it straight away ? It wont matter what version of wii i recieve ?

2/ What type of device you recomended I use for usbloader ? Hardrive or flashdrive does it matter ?

3/WIll any SD card be ok for softmodding ?

4/ Whats the best way to connect it to a 1080p plasma and my surround system, WIi does not have hdmi and digital optical right ?

5/ Can I use Wii online services once I have soft modded it ?


Sorry for newb questions but this stuff can be abit overwhelming when you have paid no interest to it in the past.

Now then Snoz,

1- At the moment all UK Wii's can be softmodded.
2 - I would go with a USB HDD like a WD320-500GB elements
3 - A 1-2GB Non SDHC SD card for your softmod files
4 - I use a scart on my sony 1080p - but i have seen HD'ish leads around
5 - Yes you can.

Is that a ok SD card ? I have a SD usb reader or whatever its called already, which i use for my mates DS. I presume thats how it works with Wii, you put the SD card in the usb reader and then plug it into the Wii ?

That card is fine, there is a front flap on the wii that pulls down and the SD Card goes directly into SD slot inside (once you put the required softmod files on).

just to add a bit of info regarding the tv connection, the wii comes with a composite/scart connector in the box but its crap, you will get a better picture if you buy a component or proper RGB scart lead.
