Default Apple seem to have changed their policy. iPad available instore on 28th

I had an email out of the blue this morning suggesting that I should buy my iPad direct in an Apple store on the morning of 28th May. This is in direct contradiction to the previous advice that they weren't doing a store launch as such and people should order from the website.

I'm wondering if they've sorted some more stock out sooner than they anticipated ?

    Had the same email.

    News over at Rheena.com confirms it also;

It was always on the cards, I guess they wanted to judge demand and make sure they could fulfill pre-orders, who's going for it then?

I think Apple may have over-estimated the European response to the iPad, basing it on the massive take-up in the States. Even though I'm getting one (because I'm weak willed) I believe my fellow Europeans are adopting a more sensible wait and see approach.

I really really want one but I don't know why. Can't really afford the monthly contract fee's for 3G atm and without net that roams with me it seems like an expensive toy.

I don't think I can hack my iPhone as it's running 3.1.3 atm so I can't just get the "turn your iphone into a access point" app.

    Arrgghh

Worst part is I work near an Apple store and have to pass it at about 8am on Friday, I am weak and will probably end up buying one.

    Edit*

Also I've just been on the Apple website and spotted that they are now stating "Ships June" not "7th June" Maybe I am reading too much into this but why make people that have ordered before release wait but allow those that queue (and they will queue) get one just for turning up on the day.

You should be able to jailbreak it using Spirit and then install Mywi, but what you can't do is unlock it.

I'm happy with my contract on the phone the big deciding factor would be if I could get mywi or something similar on my phone to make it an access point then I wouldn't have the excuse of not being able to go online using it without a wifi hotspot or 3g contract

Just point out that if other people think the same that maybe why you could pick one up on the day now maybe a price drop in it future??

If you think about everything that the iPhone does for £400 is the extra £300 for just bigger screen (and losing phone) really worth it??

Lol there's an echo in here !

My iPhone was 400 my ipad will be 430 so that's not as vast a difference as you suggest.

It's not going to appeal to everyone, just like all apple hardware but I for one quite like the fact that not everyone likes the stuff that I like.

Look at it like this. I have sunglasses that cost £200, my missus' ones are £10. They do the same job to the same standards but I like mine and I'm happy to pay the premium. I dare say you would prefer the do the job cheaper ones but that's where we differ. Not everyone likes the same things. That's life
