Methods for Resetting a Windows User Account Password
There are several methods that can be used to reset a Windows user account password if, for whatever reason you cannot gain access to your user account, below are listed three (3) of them. These methods will work in all versions of Windows 7 and Windows Vista.
Option One
Password Reset Disk
This is the easiest method but you must have created the "Password Reset Disk" first, before you have access issues, it has to be created from within a user account while you are logged in to the account it is intended for and cannot be created outside of that account, it will only work for the account it was created for and cannot be used to reset the password in another account.

Option Two
Using System Restore
This is a very efficient method and works well but you must have a viable
system restore point to use that was created
before you started having logon issues; for ways to create restore points for future use, see the "Related Tutorials" links at the bottom of this tutorial page.

Option Three
Using the Regedit Function
This is a very good, reliable method to use, I have tried it in many different situations and in several versions of Windows 7 and Vista all to good success; at first glance it looks rather complicated but after you have done it you will see that it's really rather easy to use; just relax, take your time and in about ten (10) minutes you will be back in your Windows user account.
