Help Win XP & Dual Monitors

I've just started using dual monitors on my Win XP system.

I'm using two brand new AOC 2436swa monitors through my ASUS EAH4650 video card. One connected to VGA and one connected to DVI via VGA adapter.

The first monitor I set up, the VGA connected one, works 100% it is recognised by windows as the exact model, driver works 100%.

The second monitor (connected via DVI) is only seen as DEFAULT MONITOR ON ASUS EAH4650. If I try and update the driver manually to the one the first monitor is using I get the message returned that THERE IS NOT BETTER DRIVER TO USE (not exact message).

Try as I might this monitor will not install as its partner, it will only work reliably at 1152x864 resolution (which is pants!). The monitors are EXACTLY the same. Does someone know how I can sort this problem?

    Thanks

Have you tired connecting the DVI monitor first and then the VGA one second? Sound stupid but on my 3 screens i have in XP I had to plug them in a certain way to get the 3rd one to work.

Go to device manager, find the "default monitor", right click, properties, then go to the driver tab, then update driver, not not this time when it wants to connect to windows update, then Install from a specific location (advanced), then don't search, I will choose the driver to install, then select your device from the list and job should be done.

    Over carl

Well that kinda worked. Sytem now reports two of the same monitor running on the same video card. I had to follow your suggestion but list non-compatible devices and select the make of monitor in there and install the driver when asked.

Bottom monitor is totally fine at 1920*1080, works well. Dragging a browser screen from the bottom monitor to the top monitor however, even though the resolution is also set to 1920*1080 in properties, shows that the resolution is/looks much lower. Also after doing this the browser screen (firefox) has bigger footprint than the screen.

Any idea how to fix that?

    Cheers

Sounds like the actual gfx driver has problems to me - are there any alternative drivers you can try from anywhere?

Been out and bought a new Asus ENGT240, will install this tomorrow sometime. Hopefully all will be well. I'll report back.

    Thanks
