Wonder why it goes from 4.3 to 4.1, and not 4.2...

4.2 was an anti-piracy update and offered nothing that 4.1 didn't give you - so alot of people prefer to be on 4.1 rather than 4.2 and update ios as required

    Regards

    BEWARE!!!!

I tried this on a previously softmodded wii and now have a brick.
it was on 3.4e from the last hack, but the guy let it update to 4.1 with Mario Galaxy 2 and no other copy games would then work.
He done a Ninty update to 4.3 then realised he couldn't hack it.
I done the Indiana Pwns hack and got to wad manager and done the following..

    Install these wads-
    ios249-v17.wad
    cIOS60-v6174.wad
    cIOS70-v6174.wad

    Part 3- Downgrade to 4.1-
Download you SM for your region
    4.1e-System Menu-NUS-v450.zip = PAL Euro
    Extract to sd:\wad
    Install System Menu 4.1
Do not install this before ios60-v6174, you will brick

    Part- 4 Install HBC

    Then it froze.
    switched off, then back on....
black screen - dvd drive flashed once - nothing else

Looks to me like a bannerbrick, or low level brick at worst.

Cant get to bootmii - boot2 (not sure if it was installed, but holding reset on boot does nothing)

Gonna try a SaveMii and see if I get anywhere tommorrow.

Not had to do any 4.3's yet, Well I hope you have some luck tomorro, Can imagine how ya feeling, trying to help someone out and it don't go to plan.
Looks like the later workarounds are staying on 4.3 and just restoring HBC & cIOS's.
    Time for a Beer eh!

I can't complain really, I have softmodded 100+ wii's since the very first hack was out and have made a few quid from it, so i'll buy the dude a wii off ebay, and play around with this brick and see what comes from it.

Just wouldn't want someone to follow my footsteps and dud somoeones wii like i have and have to foot the bill for it.

I reckon that the 4.3 update stubs ios60 or such and when you try to install an older firmware you loose the system menu due to ios60, or the NUS firmware.wad i downloaded was a ninty hooky firmware put out there????

Worst thing is, if I had done the original softmod I would have the Nand backup in my archive as I backup every wii i mod for this reason.

    life goes on

If you have priiloader then you should be safe from any updates..
I think the thing with this 1 is that it was 3.4 - a dodgy download updated to 4.1 (at this point, who knows what ios or cios's were installed and what stubs were there) - then a ninty 4.3 update which would have overwritten some/most ios files and done god knows what to others, then the 4.1 roll back.... no wonder it got bricked lol

the update partition is removed by the usb loader when the game is copied to the HDD, so you should get any issues with that.

I have been converting from .iso to .wbfs using an app on my PC, then just dragging them onto the HD to the right folder...

Am I in danger of having the Wii updated, or does the conversion to wbfs remove the update partition from the image?

No you'll be alright, the update partition is removed both ways.....

That said if you can't have BootMii as Boot2 and a Nand Backup
You should have Priiloader Installed - You need to have some protection in place, for the unseen.
