The sight of tropical fish has always fascinated me and Ive seen quite a few very impressive aquariums over the years but Ive never owned one myself.

Ive had crabs though once when I was a young lad.

used to have a large tank mainly filled with oscars, and cichlids had a small breeding tank too. had a pair of jewel cichlids bred like rabbits(or even fish) had hundreads of them mouthbrooders beautifull to watch.
gave it up too lazy to clean the tank out.

Yeah cleaning them is a pain in the arse, but if you stock the tank right it'll cut the cleaning down. I've got a sucking loach that cleans most of the crap away and a good three stage filter that does the rest, just got to clean the fish shite out of the gravel once every two months. I've had the tank filled for about 3 years and not had to do a complete water change yet.

I'm thinking of getting one for the louge. Some of the fish you can get are amazing.

I'm not going to jump straight in though. Plenty of research needed and cash.

Yeh, got both marine & tropical fish (diff tanks)
Is a lot of work, esp with marine. If the water level (nitrates or something) suddenly changes then your fish die one by one while u trying to figure what's goin on!
Tropical tank has 2 silver dollars (think thats the name), 2 angels, few of this other small fish and 2 massive algae eating fish!
Marine tank has clown fish, 3 damsels and some crabs & snails (used to have more but they died.. in process of getting more since they in a new tank now)

terrysmr2, white spot can be caused by the fish being stressed or of ill health. If your tank is overstocked or stocked with the wrong mixture of breeds then this could be a cause.

yeah we were told that but its the 2 cichlids that have it and they shouldn't be stressed thier the bigest fish in the tank also we had the fish shop work out how many fish we could have in the tank they have been brillient and i would recomend them to anyone that lives in Northern Ireland we have put some treatment into the tank so i hope this cure's the problem they dont look any worse this morning

Don't have tropical's but have always liked Black Moors. Bought 4 from a reputable dealer in a large enough tank with all the bit's. 2 died for no apparent reason, so I introduced a new one who promptly began to eat a third. I now have a rouge fish who eat's his own shit and is getting big enough to eat. I knew fish ate dead fish but not the living?!?!?!

Have you tested the pH of the water in the tank is accepable for all the breeds you have. A range of 6.5 to 7.5 should suit most species, also is the water temp constant. Increase the temp slightly to about 81 while white spot is present and keep it at this temp for 2 weeks after tratment seems to have cured it, after this period reduce it by 1-2 degrees a week to between 75 -79 degrees.
