People who work in offices: What do you wear to work?

Random question but I have been complaining a lot over the weekend about work making me wear a suit and tie tomorrow so they can take photos of me, and a lot of people are surprised I don't wear that every day. Three office jobs I have had have all involved just wearing shirt and black trousers, and in one we actually decided the IT dept. uniform should be jeans and tshirts because we sometimes had to move PCs and we got off with it.

What does everyone here wear? I thought shirt and black trousers was pretty standard stuff but am apparently wrong, with most workplaces dressing up.

I was going through the terribly complicated process of choosing a tie that doesn't clash with my shirt for tomorrow, but it turns out it's not an issue because I only own one tie. Cracking.

Edit: Ooops, I'm a sexist bastard. Doesn't apply to female members because no matter how formal office dress codes are you seem to be able to wear whatever the fuck you want.

My work is split between crawling around PC's/servers and attending meetings so I tend to do both formal stuff and jeans/T-shirts tbh, so I voted 'Other'

in my current job (tech support informal office) its just jeans and a work poloshirt but before in a formal office doing it helpdesk stuff it was trousers and shirt tie optional.

Just casual.

Jeans, Tshirts, Footbal tops whatever anyone wants to wear really. Just so long as you're clean, don't wear undesirable slogans (which means I can't wear a few of my Cradle of Filth t-shirts..lol).

I generally go into work with a pair of Jeans, Bench or similar t-shirt and a pair of boots such as cats or timberland. - Smart casual that I'd be allowed into a bar in.

Im currently sitting here in a slogan t-shirt and a pair of denim shorts But then, we are a digital agency, so we can pretty much wear whatever we want. At some point we will move back into the head office, and then probably lose the shorts and go to jeans, but until then I plan on enjoying the summer.

Work for a design and advertising agency so we can wear pretty much anything we like.

While it was hot most of us were in shorts and flip flops.

Pants and a shirt for me. IT Support so sometimes have to crawl under desks which I'm not a fan of in my pants.

Dress down on Friday though.

Work at a University in IT, can wear what we want but as I'm the Manager of the team I wear shirt and trousers...

Occassional dress down Friday. But we have company provided polo shirts to wear (all staff from GM to Stockhandler wear them). We just have to wear trousers (Blue/Black) and if we go into the main warehouse, then we have to wear some lovely steel toe-capped safety shoes.

I work in a hospital IT dept. We used to wear shirts but a couple of people tended to not wear 'clean' shirts. We now all wear dark blue polo shirts with NHS on them and black trousers.

a friend of mine works for a company up the city and upon getting the job was told which hair styles where suitable to maintain the company image and was also told where to get his suits, was given an allowance as well so not all bad! he said to me the other day that they have since merged and got a bit slacker with the hair cut rule! haha

One of our marketing guys was telling me a story about a job interview he had with Pepsi some years ago. On his second interview they offered him the position and as he was leaving his new boss told him it would be a good idea to shave that 'thing' off his face. Basically the image of the department was 'young and preppy' and a beard didn't fit in with that corporate image. Anyway he had another offer on the table so he decided to take that instead because he didn't fancy being a corporate clone.

It happens all over the city. Where I was before, there was a much stricter shaving policy for instance, and any visible tattoos were discplinary offence. In all the 8 years I worked there I never saw a single external client, but thats the City for you. Personally I much prefer my situation now

Suit & tie. Don't mind it really as I am customer facing 90% of the time. It is annoying in the middle of the summer trying to cool down whilst my assistant managers can wear what they like on account of being female.

for me it is black trousers and my work polo shirt. however if doing interviews then black trousers and shirt and tie.
