    PS3 Cinavia

Ive been reading a lot about cinavia protection in recent posts with the latest PS3 firmware update. It looks like there are trying to stop you watching backups on your PS3.

I put a Film on a dvd and ran it through my ps3 and after 15seconds Cinavia kicked in and would not read the disc.

Here's an old article : http://www.afterdawn.com/news/articl...aim_at_pirates Apparantly works with Telesyncs too as it's in the audio instead of the picture. I think this will be fairly easy to get around though.

So they are trying to stop the one thing left that I actually use my playstation 3 for?

The creation of billions of galaxies each containing trillions of stars each with their own solar systems, some with planets that have evolved civilisations with billions of different life forms. OR The creation of just your imagination?

yip I also tried an xvid rip of Splice and that got the Cinavia message.

Does this mean the same is going to happen for MKV stuffed converted to VOB for playback on the PS3.

i would imagine if the 'secret signal' can stay embedded from someone filing the film in the cinema then i would say yes

just been reading up about it, very clever stuff indeed, however its just going to put people off buying a blueray player etc. as more and more people are downloading their own stuff now
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.

correct, i'm still on 3.15 anyway waiting for geohot to get his finger out

huge discussion and possible solutions here:

    http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=155777

A little background for those that don't fully get how it works. They embed an (inaudible lol) signal into the audio stream. The signal will survive all re-encoding attempts and even analog recording, and yes, this has been tested by others. So no matter what format you think you can convert it to, the Cinavia signal will still be present and detectable on Cinavia enabled equipment.

However, and here's the kicker, it *REQUIRES* a Cinavia enabled player to detect the signal and then follow the "rules" for playback. (Message 1 is typically a CAM recording, Message 3 is typically a copied Blu-ray recording). If the player doesn't know how to detect it, or simply doesn't care, then this protection is useless. Just something to consider.
there is a workaround on the bluray forum i'm on - when you see the cinavia message rewind then fast forward for about 30 seconds and play again. very ghetto for now but it works

Hmm... this isn't looking good at all really for the PS3. The PS3 is more likely to keep getting updated to improve the DRM implementation than a Bluray player. Watch how any XBox 360 sales there are over the next month or so...

Dammit - means I have to buy another console/player or use my laptop to watch movies
