    Default Network access restriction

I would like to give a program access to the network namely XBMC, but not the user (through Windows Networking).

Reason being, XBMC wont let users delete the files, but Windows Networking does.

At the moment, I have 4 networked drives setup and XBMC uses these to find the files with full access. Only problem is, so does windows. Is this done in Windows Firewall? Permission settings (the need for more user accounts on the server!)?

How would I go about doing this?

Are the disks NTFS mate? If you just need read only access then you could just configure the share permissions so that the Everyone group doesn't have Full Control - just Read Only or even better remove the existing entries and enter just the users you want access to have Read Only. If the disks are NTFS then no matter what permissions they have at the disk level the share permissions will mean they can only read file but not delete.

Other option is just make some new shares which are read only and let people access those.

To see everything you need you'd have to turn off simple file sharing - it has been a long time since I've done that so can't tell you exactly where it is but it's somewhere in the Explorer settings I think>

Tools, Folder Options, View tab, then scroll to bottom of list of options and you should see simple file sharing.
