Garmin Nuvi 205

Hey gents.

I've just picked up a Garmin Nuvi 205 (with japanese maps only)

I was wondering if I can get more stuff for it? (Maps and the like)

Can the garmin units be hacked like the tomtom's?

Yes they can, there are plenty of maps around either unlocked ons which obviously will work straight away, or locked ones which need to have an unlock file (gmapsupp.unl) made with jetmouse keygen.

I read that its possible to upgrade this unit to the 4x more expensive Nuvi 465 model. Amoungst other things, this would add Lane Assist feature I gather.

Has anyone attempted this? The instructions don't appear very clear. The author was giving some help on the thread there but it seems like he has disappeared (he has not replied to 1+ year old questions).

My concerns would be:

- Do purchased maps remain?
- Is this OK for .eu region device or only intended for North America version? (well, the author is Polish so presumably its ok)..
- What breaks?

Also worth noting: "Patched firmwares work ONLY with N 2x5W series with hardware id 827. You can check your hardware id (HID) by looking in <ParNumber> tag in GarminDevice.xml file."
